I have so many of these and they are bright. I'm switching to all gradient light strips on the TV for Sync. Not sure what to do with all the bars....lol.

My point....if you are considering this for TV backlighting with Sync.....get the gradient strip. The Play Bars do work well though in addition to the Strip.

if you want the Play Bars.....this is a great price.

good price on these, but keep in mind there is only one power adapter. it can handle all 3 lights, but if youre like me and wanted to use 2 lights in one place and one in another you'll need a 2nd adapter. also, I've found the separate HDMI sync box to be pretty awful

Here are a few videos I did with only Hue Play Bars (no gradient strip) and a Sync box. I did add more Bars after this video was made and eventually removed them all and am using the Gradient Strip for top and sides and Play Bars for the bottom.

The Hue Sync Box? I dunno, I love mine. Use it daily. What don't you like about it?
I found the synch distracting for tv shows. I use the gradient strip on a solid color.

Doesn't support HDMI 2.1 for starters. With how expensive it is, it should absolutely support HDMi 2.1. No control over the sync zones, so the colors won't perfectly sync with the image like they do with something like the Lightpack.

You could have paid much less for an off brand LED strip for just solid colors. Albeit perhaps not as bright.

Do you think these would work as attractive videoconference lights?

They look better than typical LED panel...could mount 2 of them above/next to my monitor, maybe use the 3rd as a hair light (or even to add a subtle color wash to the background).

Then I could also just do something like say "Hey google, turn on webcam scene" rather than my current process of going around and turning on multiple switches whenever I take a video call.

I've been eyeing the hdmi sync box. But The price and lack of features I am hesitant.
The price on the sync box is high, but I was fine paying that much to get the "cool lights" syncing up. I found out very quickly that if you already have a large number of lights (I have ~35 hue lights in my home, plus the light switches) that the delay in the sync box made it unusable even from 1 room away.

My Entertainment Area was set up with 10 lights, but I've also tried it with fewer (4-6) and still found it to be unusable due to the lag (something happens and then you wait 1 second for the lights to change).

This is with a hardwired Hue switch, the HDMI Sync hub and all Hue-branded bulbs in a small 2 bedroom apartment with the router/hub placed around the middle of it.

I've heard that using few (total) lights, or putting some on a dedicated 2nd Hue switch may help improve it.. but if you've already spent the high prices on everything so far, that's another (expensive) hassle to deal with.

If you don't currently use hue lights everywhere in your home, and ONLY want to use it for an entertainment/sync set up, it will be an expensive use but probably work better than if you already use hue lights in different rooms other than the entertainment area.

Yes, they would work for that, but they are a bit bulky and can be distracting/blinding depending how bright you set them. It can make it difficult to navigate your screen when lights are focused on you, but if you have the space.. it would work nicely for that!

Anyone with input on whether these will work well as under-cabinet lights? I can't tell the exact dimensions of a light from the picture. My wife doesn't like the LED strips since they show individual lights in our white cabinet/white countertop/white backsplash setup, so I'm searching for a workable smart undercabinet light that isn't too DIY and that plays with our Google smart speaker setup.

How does this sync with the show your watching on tv? Is there a sensor?

Over the cabinet or behind something, yeah but not under. They are too bulky

It depends on how deep the bottom of your cabinets recess/if you want them completely hidden, these are about an inch and a half tall and I think little taller if you mount on the included base. It is a bit more DIY and doesn't have multiple colors, but Ikea has some nice under cabinet lights with an optional hub to connect to smart speakers.

But in my experience Hues have been more reliable and look nicer than most other smart lights I've tried.

Without the sync box, you won't be able to get this to sync colors with TV content unless you run your signal through a laptop and use the app to sync.
Not necessarily. For example, I used Hue Stream app on my android TV, worked just fine with most things except Netflix.
