A lot of people feel better about themselves by not using the left over hide from the animals consumed but instead using petroleum from the middle east or Russia and chemicals from China.

In response to your misleading comment about toxic chemicals and environmental concerns related to the production of vegan suede, have you looked up the process to clean and tan animal leathers?
"skins are soaked in revolving drums filled with water, bactericides, and detergents. Hair is removed with the application of chemical sprays or lime solutions. Another round of washing (de-liming) removes these chemicals before the hides are soaked in an acid solution and then bated, an enzyme treatment to further remove the skins' collagens. Finally, the hides are pickled with salt and sulfuric acid."
