I'd plan to get more RAM, 8GB usually doesn't go very far. My current laptop struggled with even 16 GB before I upgraded it.

I'll be honest. I haven't had either in awhile (like in the past 10 years). But hoping dell build quality is getting better... for $400, I'm okay with taking a risk...

For those planning on adding ram, maybe consider the 5825u model. About $150 more, but you get a better cpu, and it comes with 16gb of ram.

And better GPU.

The 5825u option is worth it IMO.

It might be working again. However, I did go through the "Dell Shop" link here on SD, and then select the 10% Off for Email Signup coupon. Got Capcha to work, and about 45 min later got my 10% code. Used it immediately on this deal (albeit with the Ryzen 7 processor). Came out to $573 with all the combined coupons. Repped.

Dell and HP (and insert-brand-here) have, and have had, many different lines of laptops all built to different price points. It's hard to flat out say "all X are good" or "all X are bad". They probably all make some good and bad stuff at the same time. This is one of the cheapest laptops Dell makes right now so I'm not expecting anything too amazing, but still have no reservations about buying it.

I think we're at the point where every laptop should feature USB-C charging.

Even the 5825U has Non-Backlit Keyboard which kills the deal for me.

All laptops are pretty dang sketchy. Just part of the laptop ecosystem.
