A lot of people have gotten their Facebook accounts unlinked from their Quest, including myself. I don't even have a Facebook account anymore. You just have to call customer service. You need a Facebook account to set it up, though. They announced a month or two ago that they're removing the requirement of linking a Facebook account sometime soon. I imagine they're trying to improve their terrible (well earned) public image.

I created an email account for the sake of Ray-Ban stories sunglasses and use the same for oculus.

Did you have any games by the time you unlinked Facebook? I bought a few full priced games and I'd be pissed if I lost them.

I'd like to unlink my FB account too, but when I chatted with Oculus (online) to do it, they said it wasn't possible, I hear they will allow it later this year. I don't really know the true story.

Regardless, if you unlinked the accounts, you wouldn't lose any of your Oculus games.

I'm just worried they're going to say you no longer need a facebook account - you need a meta account.

Regardless of what account you need, Meta owns it. So, anything that Zuck conjures up to monetize your Oculus info will still put you at risk. But, the way Facebook has indiscriminately cracked down on accounts on Facebook, for no obvious reason whatsoever (including lack of FB activity), it is a major plus to get the accounts unlinked. FB social media activity (or inactivity) should have no bearing on your VR experience, property, etc. It's the one major issue that had me holding back from getting a Quest. I hope I can get the accounts unlinked, eventually, and just get an Oculus account.

Just go to the Digital Freebies forum (this one) and search Oculus or Quest. You can also go out to google and search site:slickdeals.net Oculus Free Game or something similar. I'm not a big fan of SD's search engine. Some Oculus freebies are still available.

This game is permanently free, along with the popular quest game "gorilla tag" from the same developer. As far as I'm aware, Oculus (or Meta now) doesn't give away freebies. These are just free-to-play games. I think the only paid game Oculus has given away was "Asgard's Wrath." That was only given to new Quest 2 owners, when is was first released, that linked their Quest 2 to the Rift app on PC. It's a great PCVR game published by Oculus Studios. App Lab games are usually free, as well, before their full release, after which they're sometimes paid games.
