Less than $10 off its standard price. Not an amazing deal but a decent saving if you were going to buy it anyways.

Yea, this isn't a real deal, but they are decent units.

If I remember right, Project Farm rated these well

Correct. Out of thirteen different offerings (three of which being Harbor Freight sub-brands) tested by Project Farm, the Dewalt step drill bit with the double spiral flute design finished solidly in first place and "really destroyed the competition."

Lol these are like 10 bucks at HF.....what a joke....obviously these are probably a little better....but not six times better fo sho
Hmm..... let's put your "what a joke" up against some numbers from project farm. Step drill bits 3 brands Bauer (harbor freight), temo M35 cobalt, dewalt nitride coated. Mild steel plate, time to bore through all equal pressure used equal rpm same drill press. Bauer 51 seconds, temo M35 cobalt 11 seconds, good right ? a lot better than the harborfreight brand almost 5x faster at 11 seconds vs 51 seconds. The dewalt did it in 8 seconds, over 6 x faster. AR400 steel plate, very hard steel, used for armor plating..... temo M35 cobalt took 26 seconds to penetrate, dewalt took 20 seconds, bauer could not penetrate at all just spun.

Your "what a joke" dewalt out performed M35 cobalt steel step drill bit. The dewalt bit made from cobalt steel ? don't know, they sure don't put it on the label but it out performs M35 cobalt. Go look at the comparison at project farm here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGbMQul6_Bc The dewalt might not be as much of "joke" as you think it is.

Step bits are best used for thin sheet metal and sheet plastic. The Harbor Freight ones work well for that. Use your drill bits for thick stuff. As always, pick the right tool for the job.

For $50 difference I can wait the 43 seconds...and I am not planning on drilling armor plating...

Lol, good points, for you the HF bits will work well. However, for those that bore through cast iron or anything else harder than mild steel the extra $50 is money well spent for the dewalts.

Round it up to 1 minute. I charge $1.5 per minute. Do the math.... I'll gladly pay the $50 to not have to stand in front of a drill press for an extra hour.

If you really wanted to do the job fast, you would just use a drill bit. Stepping through 6 sizes you don't need is not fast.
