Thanks for being curious. I have been using this software for 10 years or more and have saved my computer from crap on some websites. I had a problem with updating the software once and the owner contacted me to solve the problem. Just so happen, we both attended University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. There is NO ONE ANSWER. I have been getting crap off people's computer since 1992.

Be sure to back up your computer too. You will thank me later.

I use these on a few devices, including my personal desktop. I like that Malwarebytes can run alongside Defender. Defender is pretty solid (both enterprise and free versions), but I sleep better knowing that it's an additional layer of security.

I grew up with the original versions of Malwarebytes, before it had active monitoring. I work in tech and I can swear by this product. I know that everyone says to just use Windows Defender, but many enterprise clients I work with have multiple AV solutions implemented alongside Defender. Malwarebytes Premium, while probably not the greatest for corporate or enterprise protection, is AMAZING at catching stuff at the consumer level that Defender won't. Its active monitoring is lightweight and the best I've seen.

Back in 2012 I bought 3 copies of the lifetime malwarebytes subscription. I still have them in storage if anyone wants to PM me. I'll sell them for this same $25 per.

Malwarebytes is supposed to be used as a co-active scan along with your main virus scan. Microsoft Defender is free but unless you sub to MS Defender for Endpoint you do not get the full benefits. Personally I use Defender on Windows 11, but I also do have a firewall with a subscription.
