Jesus the porting issues make me want to not switch. I don't want to risk my number. How can a major big 3 carrier be so dysfunctional? I don't understand why its not super easy/seamless and all done online as long as you have the info from the carrier you are leaving.

You spend 30 mins porting your phone and then use the phone service for 2+ years, 16gb for $25/month. Great deal to me

Stores make absolutely no money on prepaid. So why would they spend time helping you out? You might catch a kind soul in a corporate store but forget about it in a franchise store

I just wanted to make sure I understand the full deal.

You're actually buying the 360-day 8gb plan, with 8gb data per month bonus, totaling 16gb per month.

Very tempted to move to this from a post-pay family plan i'm on, just have to buy out and unlock my phone, port my number to tmobile then back to att),

I was considering the boost plan, but since my phone gets it's updates from att, i want to ensure i get security updates still. this plan gaurentees that, the boost plan, i'm not sure (since it is at&t towers). I'm on wifi 95% of the time too, so the 35gb from boost isn't really a deal breaker.

Its not so much the 30 minutes, its more I don't want the whole thing bungled and I somehow loose my phone number. Had the number a long time. I know I have read horror stories in other threads of people losing their numbers porting.

This deal's page currently recognizes I'm a postpaid customer and doesn't let me sign up. If I have AT&T postpaid currently and no contract, what would be the safest/cheapest/easiest way to port my number to another carrier and port it back into this prepaid deal? Is there a waiting period until my number flushes out of the att system? I do not want any chance of losing my number during this process. Thanks.

The choices so far I know of: port my number to google voice for $20 and port back to this deal. Someone mentioned porting their number to T-mobile for $10? Which plan is that under?

Same questions coming over and over again.

I run a group over at redditt for unl max and I can assure you the number you ported over to tmobile can then be ported ONTO a new customer line you set up with the 8 plus 8 bonus 300 plan.

you cannot port directly from att postpaid and cricket, you cannot move from a current att prepaid to this and get the bonus you need to be a NEW customer
When you say port "ONTO" a new customer line on this 16gb deal, do you mean you open a new prepaid line with a new number, then port your old number from another carrier over onto your prepaid plan, deleting your new number?

What would you say is the best/cheapest/most reliable way to take a postpaid ATT number not on contract, and to make it eligible. Is there any other carrier plan that would make this easy?

all the answers are found in the previous pages.

respectfully I know everyone wants an individual answer but it's all there

Just sign up as a new customer don't check the keep my number and make sure the temp number is same zip areas code as you current number

you WILL have 2 numbers for a couple of days

as soon as you have everything activated service confirmed

THEN you go physically to a tmobile store and as you have your postpaid att number ported to a new tmobile number and plan for 10 plus 10 for the sim

make sure you also get the account info and port out info at the store

go home and call 1888 port activations number to port your postpaid/tmobile number onto new number

Now if you want to nickel and dime this process that's up to you but this is the safest and best way to do it

Worked fine for me today:
- iPhone 13 eSIM activation
- 16gb annual plan
- Paid with $300 refills (bought few weeks ago for $256)
- Ported number from Xfinity mobile (Verizon)

Used laptop for online eSIM activation:
https://www.att.com/prepaid/activ...ivate.html

- Entered EID (last 4) and IMEI2
- Entered original service zip code for where my number is from (that way temp number is from same region)
- Selected $300 16gb plan
- ATT eSIM profile showed up on my phone settings so I accepted
- It finished activating service with new temp number
- Got text message link to create online account and security pin so I did that
- Laptop browser was sitting on payment page so I closed it
- Opened new browser and logged into online account
- Showed $300 due so I applied my refill cards to start service
- Updated profile settings with my name/current address

Called ATT port dept @ 888-898-7685 using home phone so call wouldn't drop
- Entered temp number and got transferred to a rep
- Told her I just activated prepaid service with a temp number and wanted to port my regular number over
- Gave her temp number and security pin so she could access my account
- Gave her Xfinity port info (phone/account/port pin/name/address)
- Took a few mins for port approval
- Restarted phone and eSIM updated with my reg number

Call took about 10 mins -- Xfinity account took about 30 mins for the line to show "deactivated" (number port was fully completed)

Followed this info coming from visible. Worked great and paid about $270 buying the gift cards from target. Cheaper than visible and I'm sure the service will be better. Hard to imagine data service being worse than visible during the middle of the day.

Thanks for the detailed process, even the port over call wasn't hard. Had everything done in under an hour including the port done. Using the eSim to get it done really really fast was great.

Seems like ATT is using an old backend system for prepaid that they build upon and hasn't bother putting many resources into it -- probably minimum upgrades just to keep it running but they did do a good job recently with online iPhone eSIM activation (don't have to deal with buying a physical eSIM card w/ QR code)

Porting issue seems to happen when trying to port from ATT MVNOs -- VZ to VZ carrier ports sometimes have this problem as well since its a "number migration" but yes, big carriers should be able to port/migrate numbers much better by now

If you get a new ATT number first then make sure its from the same area/region as the number you want to port in later (probably an old system limitation) -- very annoying since people won't know about it unless they find it on an online forum ahead of time

What carrier you coming from?

Number eligibility: https://www.att.com/wireless/tran...ur-number/

You should be fine porting from VZ/TMo network -- if your number is on ATT network then port to VZ/TMo first and port again to ATT Prepaid

If you have any Chase/BOA/USBank cards then look for $25 back on $25 Visible service promo (ends up being free service) -- otherwise someone else mentioned that there's a $10 TMo plan that you can port to (not sure how much total cost with sim)

Another option is buying $1 Tracfone sim kit for VZ network (check BB/Target/Walmart websites for local stock) -- you can get $15 Tracfone smartphone plan by email from Target website
