I have the $300 per year plan with 8GB data and I've been on the phone with customer service. They wont change my data to 16GB. I was on the phone with them 35min to argue. I asked for a supervisor and they hung up. I'm not giving up though.

I'm STILL trying to get my 16 instead of 8. Took a 5 day break from the hassle to go to Boston and a Sox game then back at it today on the phone with them. Was once again initially told that port ins are Not eligible for the 16GB promo, I argued again that was absolutely not the case and asked them to quote me where it says that, eventually the CS agent again agreed with me that port ins are eligible and then said something about the problem probably was that they had to create a temporary number for activation blah blah blah. I'm now awaiting another call back from a supervisor. I'll try floating the "add-on" data as a solution to the problem although a little concerned it wont continue month to month or not renew at the end of the year like the 16GB promo will.

Sounds like they created an account for you without the promo attached.

This right here is exactly what I think happened to me and is what I keep telling them. Whatever the first CS rep I spoke to after the automatic activation failed messed things all up, made my $300 payment I already made disappear and wanted to charge me again and I believe created an account with a temp number without the promo attached.

yea. the 8gb plan was temporary. that was like 4 years ago and it's now been upgraded to 16gb.

just SUCKS HARD they aren't allowing existing customers to upgrade. man, why do they always burn the loyal ones?

Yup done this a few times, I once had about a dozen phone calls with tracfone trying to recover a my mother's phone number that got lost in a transfer blunder, everyone I talked to kept assuring me the number was not lost until one finally said sorry it's gone forever, then very next CS I got I could tell immediately exactly what the issue was and he had it fixed in five minutes. You just never know how helpful one can/will be, it's that way with all the cell companies I think. Unfortunately so far even the ones that seem more knowledgeable and maybe actually are thinking about what I'm telling them the problem is, instead of just reciting prompts on the screen, in the end cant correct this problem. So far each has initially stated that port ins are not eligible for the offer only to eventually agree that they in fact are but yet cant figure out how to fix the problem.

All my cases were closed the very next day with no explanation. Well one of them said "insufficient information" and when you call back you basically start all over again.

It seems like most reps will eventually just agree with you, every one I've spoken to has eventually come around to agreeing with me that I should have gotten the 16GB and assured me it would be taken care of, but so far that has not happened. The last one I just spoke to assured me a call back from a supervisor, we'll see how that goes, not holding my breath.

Can confirm that several reps I've spoken to have said the 16GB (if I ever get it lol) will renew if the customer chooses to continue on the same plan just as the 8GB plan has. In the past several 8GB plan customers were offered double the data when they were nearing time to renew. Curious if that might start happening again, now that 16 seems to be the new standard offer.

it should be standard offer for existing customers. I don't even see how it would be legal to not allow it. Their TV ads PREACH how they offer the same deals to all of their customers. It's blatant false advertising.

Awesome to see AT&T compete with the MVNO offerings. I left AT&T for Mint a few years back and I'm about to renew my 3rd annual Mint plan. I can't walk away from Mint, it's been great, and will only cost $50 for the full year due to their generous referral incentives ($180/yr minus $130 credit for referring two new accounts - my mom and a friend). But for the first time I see AT&T as an option again, assuming I don't roll into my 4th Mint renewal with additional referral credits.

I can't find what post you mean...

My plan-

Buy new ATT prepaid and Tello sim cards.

Activate with Tello $6 plan, porting my ATT 8GB number to Tello.

Then, wait like an hour or whatever. Make sure everything works on Tello.

After an hour has past and everything is kosher, then break open the new ATT sim card, activate 16GB plan, and port Tello number over to it.
