Any suggestions for a much cheaper option to just make smoothies? I am a single person with simple needs.

Depends. Lots of vitamix knockoffs. Some are bad. Some are hit and miss. Ive tried a few. Biolomix is pretty good so far. Its as similar as my parents vitamix. But you dont buy the commercial one. Those are horrid and unreliable.

No

I primarily make smoothies and this blender changed everything.

I cannot quantify how happy I am with it.
When you put any sort of leaves or any fruit with seeds in a regular blender, you end up with really small pieces of these things. This blender works so well that it just makes all solid liquids. There is literally no texture to the smoothies. The difference in taste is night and day. Infact I was really surprised how much better it tasted. It tastes like I ordered an $9 drink from a smoothie shop.

Something else that you can do with it that I couldn't do with any of my $100 ninjas. Frozen drinks. When you make a frozen drink in a ninja, it doesn't "liquify" the ice. So instead of getting this perfect slushy consistency, you get a mixed drink with all this finely chopped ice floating at the top. With the vitamix, it just makes this perfect slushy smoothie.

It sounds trivial, but the end result is amazing. Like if I make a frozen margarita in the vitamix vs the ninja, same exact ingredients and quantities, there is not a person on planet earth who would think the one that came out of the vitamix was not a far superior drink.

Get the vitamix. I was shocked at the taste difference. I was firmly in the "it's blender what's so special about it" camp.

This is all true. And there are plenty of YouTube videos with side by side comparisons to prove it. Buy it once, buy it right, and you're good for probably 15-20 years or more.

Yeah I watched those videos. I saw it did a better job blending, but I didn't really understand that things would actually taste that much better.

I just bought it because I was tired of buying a blender every few years and just wanted something that lasted. I was shocked at how much better the things i was making actually tasted.

Like who would have known that pieces of spinach the size of a grain of sand taste like crap compared spinach that is fully liquified by a blender that's just a little more powerful.

Cheaper blenders = turns solids into really really small pieces that ends up mixing with whatever liquid base you use and it looks like one single liquid
Vitamix = actually liquifies the solids

The taste difference is very noticeable, I'm not just being a wanna be anal chef.

I just bought the Hamilton Beach Power Blender Plus for $55. I had a nice expensive Ninja which I returned 5 minutes after turning it on. These expensive blenders are great if you truly need all that power, but oh my God it sounds like an airplane taking off in your kitchen. The Hamilton is just a personal smoothie blender with a little plastic shield that dampens the sound. It's magnitudes quieter and does what I need just fine.

This is our exact experience. This is by far the best kitchen investment we have ever made.

I make smoothies daily. For years I used a hand blender (Costco has them on sale occasionally). They're not perfect, but I got mine for $20 ish, and it does enough job to make greens, fruits (pineapple, frozen straweberries, frozen blueberries), almond milk, and a sleu of powders, drinkable (some chewing required sometimes lol). I spoiled myself to a Vitamix, but I travel w/ the hand blender
