Edit: regarding the deal, I don't think they could ever legally charge for it as it's a fan-made remake of Bethesda's work. I expect this is permanently free.

Daggerfall Unity is also free. You can get it here:

All that GOG is doing is packaging Daggerfall Unity with the base game and it looks like also adding some mods. So, there's really no need to get this from GOG, other than for convenience.
It looks like GOG is only offering a Windows release. GOG stopped caring about Linux a while ago.
For Linux users, someone has made an installer through Lutris, which grabs the game directly from Bethesda and sets up Daggerfall Unity: https://lutris.net/games/the-elde...aggerfal
The only thing that would be missing is the mods, and it looks like the game description on the GOG page also links to all the mods that are packaged in the GOG release.

Anyway this game is totally free, I don't think people realize that. You can download it right from their website for free too.
