they'll still be worth around $100-$400 or more when they're out of print based on the current values of past futurepress guides, plus these are usually extremely well made and worth owning for the art and design alone

once you get over the initial hump of being new (no stats, no good gear), the game gets very addicting. i sucked at souls games but i'm level 115 and 65 hours in and barley 1/3 through the game.

i started first with an all melee build and i felt exactly like you, then i watched some youtube and made a battle mage and wayyyy more fun (and easier)

Books still have a place in the world. The publisher Future Press does a great job from reading their reviews, and I for one love a nice made book with maps, great art and lore. 2nd book says it's about enemies, weapons and Bosses. I'm getting book 1 and for $30 (less with credits) it's a great deal. Retails for $49

My problem is that Amazon sucks at delivery of books. I have so many photos of messed up books from them that they credit me a few bucks for. I've stopped ordering, target usually has similar deals for books and the books some in much better condition. If you care about the collection aspect.

My only disappoint with ER are the trophies. Almost all are boss battles, a couple alternate ending achievements and some collectibles. Nothing related to all the side quests. With that said, I'm only 2-3 trophies away from Plat and I ordered these books the second I became aware. Great price and future press has solid track record for these. Looking forward to art and lore.
