I would skip these. The 7490 i have dealt with is the i7 version they are selling here. We were using these at work and now we have been replacing them with the 7420 models. I still have about 100 more to replace just because we replace them every few years. I deal with 2 to 3 of these machines with the battery expanding and the bottom almost pops off. I don't know why Dell has not recalled the batteries. They are getting old that they are not holding up for their age. So i work in IT if you have not figured that out, currently, i am working on a 7270 that I spilled coffee on a few years ago. I don't think they made dell computers as they do. I won't even get into the 7410 and 7420 models that i also now deal with.
I worked in this area of Dell for several years. These systems are NOT refurbished. They are systems that have been returned after leases expire. Their only "test" is if it turns on. If it turns on, they wipe the exterior with a cloth, hard drive is wiped clean, a fresh OS is installed, and if the lid on a system is marred, they will literally place a large sticker on it that covers the entire lid to make it look fresh and clean. These units are then put in large bulk pack containers for resale. If you want a better deal, buy from www.delloutlet.com. This site sells newer gen systems that are truly refurbished Dell computers. Every system that enters the factory is completely tested, HDD wiped clean, repaired if necessary with new Dell parts, fresh OS installed, and individually boxed for resale. They also come with a same-as-new warranty. That is the only place I buy my computers these days.
You can find these used for even less on eBay (quad-core 1080p for $200-250) but paying extra for the 100-day warranty & presumably cleaner condition might be worth it.
I feel like most people would be better off with the cheapest 1080p quad-core option, but the ram and storage upgrades are pretty cheap. $70 more to go from 256gb ssd + 8gb ram to 512gb ssd + 32gb ram.

I've seen some swelling batteries on Dells but I think the battery cells are the same as everyone else's tbh. Seen it on HPE and Lenovo too. The batteries are actually very easy to replace.
I haven't looked at the outlet site in a while. I bought a Latitude 7410 about about a year ago and the thing arrived just like new for a stellar price. I always use my savings on thenumitnI buy to upgrade service to ProSupport. You get the best techs and very fast service (I worked in this division of Dell as well for several years).
I also work in IT and we learned Dell only warranties batteries for the 1st year of the original warranty because they're "consumable". We've seen 2+ year old 5480,5490, 7390, 7280, and Precision 5520 and 5530 all get swollen batteries. New battery is about 160-$200+. The xx80 models had the TPM issues which required a motherboard swap if it happened. Users in our environment hold onto their XX70 and older models despite their age just because of the reliability. Newer models had many issues so we've moved to Lenovo for the next 4 years to let Dell figure themselves out. Sucks because the 7X90 machines could've been so good if Dell figured out their problems!
Geez. At my old job it happened a lot with latitudes five plus years ago.. Who knows if they'll ever figure it out.
Google Dell Latitude 7490 heat issue before you buy. Don't buy any Latitude XX90 as the issue is with every model in that line. Don't believe any of the supposed fixes… they are either BS, brick the laptop, or slow it down so much it's worthless.

Does anyone know if you could run this laptop with the battery removed and just have it plugged in all the time? I feel like it's a dumb question that I'm asking.
I never got this size. You go from a 12-13" size that is compact and goes anywhere to a 15.5" that has a keyboard and num pad. The 14" size is just in-between.
I recently got a 12" refurbished latitude on one of these deals for under $275. 512gb with 8gb ram and a 4-5 year old i5, basically. I just use it for remote desktop, so it was good, plus came with win 10 prof. Much better than paying retail for these, but question which one you get....the market seems to have a bunch available.
Has anyone had experience buying anything from this site?
I bough a couple laptops from them a couple years ago. One before covid and one at the beginning for my daughter to use for remote school. I opened both to replace the m.2 Sata drive with an NVMe (I checked on dells website to make sure they supported it. As not all laptops do. It is only 2 PCIe lanes not 4 so I only get half speed from my drives but it is still 3 times faster than sata.) Anyway, the batteries were bulging both times. I contacted them right a way (within a day or 2 of getting the laptop) and told them. They sent me new (refurbished) batteries. One laptop it was a couple days the other took about a week because they didn't have a battery in stock.
TL;DR; had a couple issues a couple years ago. Both were resolved quickly and to my satisfaction.Would buy again if the deal is good enough.

DELL refurbsite is awesome. two years ago i bought 2 7480s for the house and other than replacing the factory battery with 3rd party this year, they are excellent machines. The graphics didn't hold up once I needed to do video editing, so I've moved on. but when I travel i still take the older laptop. I'd definitely look at their site for deals.

I so glad you mentioned the battery issue, I see the same thing on mine! It's a similar latitude model, not the exact same as this one. But the battery expanded at the bottom and I just realized

Good info thanks. I'm cool with that level of "refurb" - the prices on Dell Outlet seem ridiculous, id rather take my chance with having to return the laptop than pay double for a better refurb process.

Just be wary of the swelling battery issue.
