They removed the backup at original quality (except for the OG 2016 Pixels). Backup at storage saver (compressed quality) is available for life for the Pixel 2 - 5, but not for any newer Pixels after that.

There are perks with these phones.

Google offers storage for free on Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5. The offer is active for the life of the device.
I think they canceled that

I like Pixel 5 with its light weight and unlimited photo/video backups, but $450 for a phone that will only get a year and 4 months of updates seems a bit much. $300 would be more tolerable.

The cameras aren't the same. The 6a uses the same 12.2MP camera that you could find on the Pixel series since the Pixel 3, not the 50MP camera found on the 6/6 Pro. It does have the same 12MP ultrawide from the 6/6 Pro though.

I thought the camera on the 6a is not the same as the Pixel 6/Pro. In the past that used to be the case, but this year the camera on the 6a is worse than the 6/Pro.

Without the same camera, I'd rather get the Pixel 6 on sale over the 6a. In the past, the biggest reason to get the "a" pixel variants was that they had the same camera as their higher end siblings. Too bad Google didn't continue that tradition.

Seems like the only advantage you get from the 6a to the 5 is tensor with a worse modem and a bigger battery. 5 has wireless charging and a 90hz display

The key difference and change for the Pixel 6A to the previous A series is that its using a high-end SoC compared to a midrange one, which all of the Pixel 3a/4a/5a have been using.

I wished the 6a had the 6/6 Pro's new camera sensor as well, but the pictures and videos should still be great for a sub-$500, probably the best camera phone in that category.

I am on the fence, I own all of the A series Pixels, but the 6A doesn't have a headphone jack, and the fingerprint reader in the screen is not as responsive and fast as the capacitive fingerprint reader when it was on the back of the Pixel's.
