Man I wish I could get one of these without wireless/Bluetooth issues. Would love one in my small office since they don't produce much heat

Just buy the 250GB and add a 2TB usb-c ssd for the extra money rather than spending on 512GB

Memory cannot be user upgraded. There are rarely deals on minis with 16GB memory. Costco does not even carry the 16GB model.

Strong regret on 8GB memory Mac purchase.

I have Banktivity (basically Quicken for Mac) open, a few tabs, my e-mail, messenger. Yellow memory pressure almost all the time in activity monitor. I have to be constantly mindful to close background applications like Music, TV, App Store, calendar. 8GB of memory is inadequate. It runs fine, but using way too much virtual memory on the hard disk. Not ideal at all. Apple did us wrong on this release cycle. 16GB should have been standard. If I need to use a MS software Product, it really can't handle much else open before the memory pressure goes into yellow/red.

Dude, get out of here with that nonsense. Just use the machine and stop acting like you notice slowdown. I can run GameCube emulator, logic, word, safari, Spotify and messenger NO PROBLEM - at the same time. Let M1 do it's thing and accept that the annoyingly small 8gb memory is actually still extremely usable for 99% of the population.

I don't think the question was about slow-down. It was about SSD wear. At this point, it's up in the air. If a large number of systems start failing within 5 years, Apple unlike other manufacturers will fix for free as they have done in the past. I would not be worried about hardware failure en mass.

Maybe. I'm just tired of hearing all of the whining about 8gb. People are exaggerating or just looking at specs. Use the machine and see for yourself that it runs better than almost anything that exists right now.

Actually read and understand what others are saying before you comment on it...

Go spend an extra $1000 to render your image or video 3 seconds faster. Who cares.

Hm, just grabbed one in Microcenter for 550, trying to decide if it makes sense to buy this with Costco card for 4 Year warranty. Purchased it with other credir card for extra year, so the question comes to 2 vs 4 years warranty for 10 dollars and the hustle of returning

I back this message. bought it last week at Costco for the same price. I'm pushing 4k video edits, high res photography and anything else I throw at it without issue. My only gripe is the sound but I didn't expect it to have a speaker at all. I didn't want to believe the hype and was really wanting 16gb because traditionally that's the minimum I would want for the kind of work I do on desktops. I am a believer of the way this M1 works. 16 I'm sure would be great but all the scores suggest nominal improvement from 16gb. At this price, I would recommend it. Watch the YouTube videos and such. Most will guide you appropriately. To me, it is not pushing information the same way my Intel Macs did because I would definitely need 16gb on those to run smooth.

Edit: I pulled the SSD from my previous mac and use it with external enclosure from Amazon. Works great. And have a more traditional 3.5 2TB I keep for back ups etc. this thing is silent. Never gets hot and is fast AF. 1 Monitor for now.

The one pain point is the lack of ports if I were to have a complaint.

want to note i have an m1 imac (7 core but still, more or less identical) and i've gotten slowdown with photoshop + spotify + slack, and not even a huge photoshop doc. i am returning it even though i love it otherwise—8 gb is certainly a constraint on anyone who even occasionally touches heavy usage

Weird I have 27 tabs, Lightroom, 3 excel spreadsheets, and factorio open right now and it's fine with 8gb.
