Nice! It has Bios Flash Back. No CPU or DRAM needed for Bios update.
Apparently this refreshed TUF B450 model was released around the same time as ASUSs TUF B550 models, so it has similar features to the more expensive and recent B550 boards.

Got one to pair with a $165 5600G for a budget gaming rig.
Very good motherboard and features for the price.

After a BIOS/UEFI update, the highest performance CPU supported by this motherboard is AMD Ryzen 9 5950x as of June 21, 2022.

Perfect timing, I was just thinking about repurposing my Ryzen 3600 into a mATX build for file server and HTPC use. Does anyone have any compact case recommendations to go with this?

While not "compact" I got a Fractal Node 804 for my matx server. There are smaller cases, but this thing is super compact if the goal is to cram a bunch of hard drives in. Fits 8 x 3.5" and full size atx PSU and was by far the best choice for my matx home server.

Options are kind of limited.

Silverstone Milo ML03B - Full size PSU and Low Profile GPU/expansion slots

Silverstone GD05B - Full size PSU and full height expansion slots. (Still have to be mindful of GPU size)

If you have one in your region, that could save you some money! Depends on how urgently you need the hardware.

I have one 45 mins away but don't want to drive out to check deals. Any easy way to find out about combo deals aside from going to store?

Yup! Just visit their website. I actually used duckduckgo.com (search engine), typed in "microcenter motherboard combo" and this page was returned: https://www.microcenter.com/categ...oreid=101. I had to select a store for local pick-up, so just chose Tustin, CA as an example. There are 64 combos at the Tustin, CA store.

Unfortunately there is no Microcenter near me, so every time I see these offers for "in-store only" I just gnash my teeth! Have fun.

I just spent $85 on the cheapest used Athlon am4 cpu, to flash my $80 msi b450 board.
Should be arriving today sometime.
I'm definitely going to return it , and me the $15 bill in the package as a restocking fee.
I win, and so does the seller.
I was trying to just get AMD to send me a loaner cpu, but they wanted me to also contact the manufacturer and get a written statement saying that there was no bios flashback available and that it requires a loaner CPU. I just didn't have the time

Tempting but wondering if I should just wait for a cpu/mobo combo at microcenter.

Considering their price on the 5600, I'd opt for that and a cheaper b550

I've been using the IN WIN Win CJ712.AU265TB3 Matx case for my HTPC builds. It supports half height cards and with a generic 265w power supply. I have a Ryzen 5600 and Radeon 6400xt in one and a Ryzen 4500 and a Gtx 1030 in the other. The main downsides are cooler height and airflow. In one, I'm using the Noctua 9La for the 5600 and stock wraith stealth for the 4500.

That's a good one. It has completely the same VRM as ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS. Moreover it has a BIOS flashback feature so 5000 Ryzen compatibility isn't a broblem.
Actually that's the best mATX B450 mobo.

CPU should definitely be bought at microcenter but the motherboard prices there aren't the best. Just compare what the $20 off bundle would be versus getting it on sale. You could try to have Microcenter price match Newegg or Amazon though (they price match a few stores) and then buy both the CPU and Motherboard. The CPU / Mobo combo deal automatically applies if you buy a new CPU and new motherboard, but I don't know if a price match changes the automatic application.

Is this the board that you lose a PCI slot if you use both m.2 slots, or vice versa? Different forums are saying different things.

Still going to buy one with AMEX discount unless someone knows of a better deal.

Thanks!

Edit:
Yeah, the link from the CPU to the chipset is gimped, but that isn't what is causing the bottom PCI-E x16 and M.2 to share lanes. That's just a limitation of the B450 chipset no matter what CPU is used.

I thought they had some sort of loan program for that. I remember seeing it somewhere but I can't recall where though.

The case supports another two 3.5" drives on the bottom/inside floor of the case as well; so a total of ten 3.5" drives! Excellent!
