Here is a pic of an old school Craftsman 1/4" drive with 10mm socket next to a Gearwrench pass-thru. The Craftsman is 35mm tall, the Gearwrench is 26mm. You may call that 9mm nonsense, but I call it the difference between getting some jobs done quickly and looking for another way to get to that god damn bolt that some engineer hid in a hard to access location.
For those wondering, still out of stock.

That's a hell of a deal, but it's marked as clearance so it's likely not going to come back.

Great for removing swaybay links on a model s. The bolt is behind the rotor in the knuckle. I wonder which knuckle head came up with that idiotic design.

LOL! I got a down vote for complimenting the tools.. wow!

These are my go-to 1/4" sockets. Not so much for the pass-thru function (though that can sometimes be handy), but for the really low profile you get by inserting the socket into the wrench head as opposed to sticking a socket on a traditional ratchets external nub.

I also love the locking flex head - wouldn't use a flex without a lock.
.
I have this set and have to call nonsense. The locking flex head is a plus, but it is not any lower profile than a GearWrench 1/4" drive ratchet with shallow sockets and in fact, I think it is a little taller.... and I know it is taller than my SnapOn set. Every tool has it's purpose, but apparently, this tool was not designed to be a "really low profile" tool.

Where this did shine is exactly as intended with the pass through that allows more than a deep well socket and includes the hollow extensions.

But, a locking flex head ratcheting wrench works as well and seems to have won the market with most box stores discontinuing the OP as they did the Craftsman version. If in a tight spot and you don't need the pass through, the XP120 with 3 degree click is nicer than this 5 degree that in comparison, feels a little clunky.

Is Gear Wrench better than Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, etc. versions?

This is one of my favorite tools. Because it's pass thru it handles regular and deep sockets with only one set. It also means it weighs half of what a full regular set costs. I paid full price for it and would gladly do it again.

It's so light I can carry in my "do everything" pack and not have to decide "does this job really need five pounds of sockets on my back or not"?

That's not pass thru though? Description and title doesn't say so.

I wouldn't say better, but different. That set has little microdriver ratchet heads designed for more delicate work and they are not pass-thru. See the ongoing discussion about the long handle ratchet part of it here: https://slickdeals.net/f/15858895-gearwrench-1-4-drive-72-tooth-quick-release-locking-flex-slim-head-ratchet-12-81030-23-30-w-free-prime-ship-23-30

I bought the bigger 46pc set for ~$90 a few months back. I didn't wait around for a good deal, just figured I'd buy a set in case I needed it in the future. The 27pc isn't too bad of a deal, but I would wait for the 46pc set went on sale since it's more versatile.

IMO, this set is WAY over priced at +$70.. this set is more like a $50 set that is on sale for $42.50 (15% off).

Totally disagree... this is a great price. The 1/4" fles ratchet, alone, sells for $36, and the one single adapter sells for $10 alone... and individual pass thru sockets, and esp that extension, can be pricey. So, yeah, this is a very good deal for Gearwrench quality.

I'm toying with the idea of getting the larger set also on Amazon --

RATCHET 46 Pc. 1/4" & 3/8" Drive 6 Pt. Pass-Thru™ Mechanics Tool Set, SAE/Metric -

Seems like a decent price. I checked Keepa and the 3Cs and the current price is on the low side.

Any thoughts? Thank you.
