Mate, it's a night and day difference between setting up Kasa and the Hue stuff. Maybe you don't mind the "flip the light switch on and off 8 times while counting to 13" dance you have to do when setting up each bulb, heaven forbid there's something that messes up the wifi and you have to resync them all, but for a lot of people that's a big pain in the ass.

I've got a few different products from cheaper brands and the one word that can describe them all is: clunky

You know what the setup was for the Hue stuff? Literally just plugged the hub into my switch and downloaded the app. Everything else was configured out of the box. Was great. I haven't had to resync them ever... but those cheap Kasa and noname bulbs need resyncing every 6 months or so.

There also is overhead for most routers having to deal with active wifi connections. Consumer routers cap out at a surprisingly low number of clients. Yes, even "high end" ones. The frequency of the connection has little to do with it. If you only have a couple of bulbs it's nbd, but if you're swapping your house over, have smart speakers in every room, have a few people with phones, smart TVs, etc you will quickly hit these limits.

You'd prefer to have that overhead on your wireless router? You must not have many lights. Try pairing headphones when your lights are all BT as well, worse than doing it on the airplane.

Huh? They are included in the sale. They are the first item listed under "Bulbs" on the sale page, the 1600 lumen 100w equivalent.

Is it possible to install BR30 in recessed lighting fixture like this?

you'd need a recessed can housing first

Yes it's expensive but definitely the best ones out there! I bought a few just to try them and the convenience of connection is unmatched as compared to several other brands I have used. Also the colors are good.
Don't disagree, which is why I have some. I want to replace 8 bulbs with either br30s or their replacement podlights but just too much money

FYI, Philips announced a new line of products a couple days ago. New tap switches, and I believe upgraded recessed 4 and 5-6" lights, among some others

Ya absolutely. Makes setup super easy, doesn't cost more money than the actual device and syncs up perfectly to use Google home and as my control everything platform. Doesn't bother me one bit. I have a very high end router and all smart home devices are connected on the 2.4 ghz frequency while streaming/phone/computers are all on 5ghz frequency. I have 0 issues.

my buddy has 20, 1 failure in 7 years.

we love these things, the colors, and the scheduling.

I moved into a house with a lot of mediocre recessed lighting. I wish I could easily swap out for bulbs and put my hues in there.

Honestly it feels more like you're finding something to complain about. Because the hub is part of the reason the Hue bulbs work as well as they do.
