Mate, it's a night and day difference between setting up Kasa and the Hue stuff. Maybe you don't mind the "flip the light switch on and off 8 times while counting to 13" dance you have to do when setting up each bulb, heaven forbid there's something that messes up the wifi and you have to resync them all, but for a lot of people that's a big pain in the ass.

I've got a few different products from cheaper brands and the one word that can describe them all is: clunky

You know what the setup was for the Hue stuff? Literally just plugged the hub into my switch and downloaded the app. Everything else was configured out of the box. Was great. I haven't had to resync them ever... but those cheap Kasa and noname bulbs need resyncing every 6 months or so.

There also is overhead for most routers having to deal with active wifi connections. Consumer routers cap out at a surprisingly low number of clients. Yes, even "high end" ones. The frequency of the connection has little to do with it. If you only have a couple of bulbs it's nbd, but if you're swapping your house over, have smart speakers in every room, have a few people with phones, smart TVs, etc you will quickly hit these limits.

You'd prefer to have that overhead on your wireless router? You must not have many lights. Try pairing headphones when your lights are all BT as well, worse than doing it on the airplane.

Huh? They are included in the sale. They are the first item listed under "Bulbs" on the sale page, the 1600 lumen 100w equivalent.

Mechanical powered (button press) smart switches that let you just place them on the wall w/o batteries or wiring.

Are those really that good? I'm well into the Hue Ecosystem (at least a dozen bulbs + a lightstrip) but I have yet to try the switches.

Depends on how annoyed you get by:

People turning off your smart lights by switch instead of voice/app

The time it takes to ask for a light to be on/off and the delay it takes for that command to go through

I wouldn't do my entire house with them, but there are certain spots (like stairways) where I don't want to shout at a Google Home receiver and wait for the lights to come on.
