I probably SHOULD (finance wise) use 14/2, but I always wind up using 12/2 in case I need to go to 20 amps. Kinda silly, I know, but it's a lot easier to swap out receptacles and fuses compared to replacing wiring.

Does the current code even allow 14 for outlets? I haven't looked at that part of the book in ages as local jurisdiction last couple places I've lived has their own requirements spelled out for that sort of stuff. For example where I live currently, you have to use 12/2 on all 15/20a circuits. I'm onboard as far as outlets go unless it's like a single 15a or something, but 12 for lighting is unnecessary though. Nonetheless that's what they want here.

I generally use 12/2 for all outlets and use a 20amp circuit.

I only use 14/2 for lighting. I have been doing a lot of switch loop wiring for light is our mid century modern home.

Copper, lumber, etc... is already down 20%+ in the last month. Expected to drop more in the next year.

Palladium is down about 40% this year.

Kitchen receptacles, bathroom receptacles, garage receptacles - 12/2 (20A). Basically all other general purpose lighting and receptacles in a single family residence is 14/2 (15A).
