Is this better than the midea duo 12k that was on sale for $399?

I've had this since last summer and it works great. Quiet (for an Ac unit) and cools the space it's in (approx. 800sq ft) really well. App works ok.

No, I would say it is worse as it doesn't have heat like the Midea Duo. Other than that, it is pretty much the same AC. Midea makes Danby, Toshiba, and a few other off brands (including one that sells on Amazon). In fact, I have a Danby, Toshiba (Midea Duo rebrand), and a Midea Duo all connected to the Midea app on my phone.

The Midea Duo was by far the best deal on a new portable air conditioner I have come across in a while. Last year Costco had a 10k SACC Danby on sale for $400, but the Mideo Duo is better than that, so $400 was a steal for it given inflation and better specs.

If you will never use the heat option, then the Danby is almost identical to the Midea Duo for $50 more. Still a great deal, but not as good as the $400 Midea Duo.

That was a different model with 12K BTU (10K SACC) cooling. I also bought it last summer from Costco.

I got the LG from Costco couple months ago, just got to start using it now. While it cools my bedroom very well, I'm very disappointed, leaks water (though the tank is almost empty), and I think I'm starting to smell gas (Freon) leaking ! I don't think Costco can help to exchange since it's out of stock and therefore would have to go through LG customer service which I'm dreading .. debating if I should go through LG CS to get it fixed/replaced versus buying a different unit and return this one to Costco .. any suggestions on what should I do here?

Return and get this one. Costco is great for returns.

You bought it from Costco, take it back to Costco and just return it. You pay the Costco premium for this kind of customer service. There's been plenty of recent deals on other nice portable ACs.

This has got the dual hose in a hose, probably not as good as two separate hoses (I'm guessing some of the exhaust gets sucked right back in) but I'd think it is better than a single hose.

Do they publish the EER/SEER on these? On the fence and couldn't see it scanning down the page.

This is actually a better design than 2 separate hoses. Remember the hoses are not insulated, so the exhaust hose is actually giving off heat back to the room in a 2 separate hose design.
Exhaust hose in intake hose (this) improves upon that because the heat radiating from the exhaust isn't directly radiating back into the room. The outer hose provides some insulation value there. While yes, it does heat up the intake air slightly, it's better than just radiating back into the room.

Also the exhaust does not get sucked right back in. They have a ring you put so the exhaust goes out further, and the exhaust is towards one side of the larger hose.

This is why when you see Whynter portable ACs with separate dual hoses, they have a ASHARE BTU rating of 14,000 but the DOE SACC BTU rating is only about 9,000.
The SACC BTU rating takes into account the performance differences of the hose and the heat radiating back into the room (among everything else).
