I had one of these before - great visuals and sound exactly as advertised. However Windows Mixed Reality boundary setup is clunky and the controller tracking is very bad.

I ended up switching to a Quest 2 and an Asus RT-AX82u router for similar price. (I got the HP at launch)

I have perks on two different emails and neither shows the discount. I'm really confused.

How does the router play into it?

It's an expensive dual band WiFi 6 router, so maybe to demonstrate how much more expensive the HP was than the Quest 2, which is kind of the standard affordable VR set. And if he switched from the HP to it, presumably he found the experience similar, or at least comparable enough to make the trade-off value proposition equal to the price of a top notch router? That's my guess.

I think they failed to mention that Quest 2 can be used wirelessly on a good WiFi 6 router via Air Link or Virtual Desktop, which improves the experience over HP's tethered experience.

with $20 virtual desktop your quest 2 acts like a headset to steam vr, its very easy, the better the router the more bandwidth it can pass

On paper specs tell a different story.

2160x2160 per eye on the G2 versus 1920x1832 on the Quest 2. The Quest also downscales quite often to maintain performance.

G2 is also way more comfortable out of the box and has better speakers.

If you play PC games exclusively and you can't afford the Index, the G2 is the better option.

Try the HP in Microsoft Flight Simulator versus the Quest 2 and it's no contest. You will love the HP.

I have yet to hook my quest to flight simulator, but man you make we want to. I'm a newb to VR and just got the quest 2 a few weeks ago to get started. Now I wish I would have waited and put some research for alternative options. The quest is great out of the box and I hate Facebook with a passion.

This would have been a better alternative... But we did buy 3 quest 2 that day

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

G2: get this if you're really into simming. The screen is stupendous for stuff like reading toggle switch labels in ms flight sim. If you want to play 6dof VR games, note that the WMR controller tracking is strictly worse than both the Quest and Index (although I THINK you can spend $$$ on a Lighthouse/Valve Knuckles setup if money isn't an option)

Index: get this if FoV is a big deal or if you really hate FB. Otherwise, $1000 is just too big of an ask for the specs in 2022. Also Deckard (Valves unannounced in development headset) might be coming soon-ish, given how much info has been leaking on it recently.

Quest 2: for literally everyone else. Specs are still a fantastic value, has wired and wireless PCVR, and access to standalone VR plus the Oculus store with multiple exclusives like RE4VR

I think the CPU on the Quest 2 is better than the G2 Wink

In all seriousness, it's obviously not comparing apples to apples, but for many Quest 2 all-in-one package is a better deal. For those that want to sacrifice portability and more money for a better VR experience, the G2 seems like a good match. I'd much rather play Alyx on a G2 than a Quest 2, assuming I have a PC strong enough to take advantage of the G2.
