Just to elaborate the drive will still work without updating, but the PS5 benchmark tool shows faster speeds after updating. You'll also need to have an NVMe slot on your computer motherboard to update. It can't be done with an external enclosure.

I use this drive in my PS5 and it works great. There are some faster drives out there but the PS5 is limited to about 6,500mb/s speed and this exceeds that. Just make sure you update the firmware first before installing in your console.
