For the ones who didn't stack a bunch of PS Plus subscription before they switched over to the new tier system:

If you were on PS Plus and are now under PS Plus "Essential", Sony is giving you the option to upgrade to PS Plus "Extra" or "Premium" for a flat fee of $100/$150 no matter how many years of "Essential" subscription you have left.

So what you want to do if you are interested in getting into "Extra" or "Premium" for cheap is buy a couple 12 months Playstation Plus Essential for $45 after coupon 10PAYPAL (selecting PP as payment. One time use but it look like they go by IP address...I was able to buy a couple using different devices on different networks. Buy like 2x12months with the coupon then another 2x12 months with a device off Wi-Fi as apparently the cap for the coupon is $108 thanks @dopeyman06 for the tip! ) and then upgrade to Playstation Plus Extra for a $100 flat fee (or Premium for $150) no matter how many years of Essential subscription you have remaining.

Do NOT buy the old PS Plus cards as Sony disabled the option to stack the subscriptions on those so they are only for one year, first time subscribers.

(I bought subscriptions until 12.2028 then upgraded to "Extra" see pic below)

OK let me try to explain again:

You had PS Plus that was converted to PS Plus "Essential" under the new PS Plus Subscription 3 Tiers system. You can add 12 months of PS Plus Essential for $45 from the link above (instead of $59).

Now Sony is letting you upgrade your PS Plus "Essential" subscription to "Extra" or "Premium" tier for a $100/$150 flat fee (which otherwise would cost you $40/$60 extra a year) no matter how many years of "Essential" subscription you have left . So stack as many years of PS Plus "Essential" as you can and the cheaper it will be to get the "Extra" or "Premium" Tiers (the break even point is at around 2 years, anything after that makes the tier upgrade cheaper and cheaper)
You can stack membership for any amount of years (not sure if there is a limit). Instead of paying $100+ per year with the new subscription model you can just pay 45 per year and then convert the membership with $100. Example you buy 10 years at $45 for $450 and upgrade for $100 totals $550. If you pay $100 at original price you saved $450
I'm confused

The 10PAYPAL code is getting limited now.

It won't work on anything higher than $106.90 USD. So you can get 2 years for $92 and change still.

CDKeys is selling codes still for $48 each still.

Are PS Plus ~$30/yr days gone?

Im not really interested in the premium service or any more than online play + the monthly freebies (provided you stay with the service) since I buy lots of physical for PS, but I have a feeling its hiked these services

Gold on the other hand is still pretty cheap though, even with Gamepass conversions readily available and $1.

If you have Premium, redeeming any code will convert your subscription code to the equivalent value of time of Premium. So if you redeem 1 year of PS Plus, it will give you 6 months of PS Premium.

1 year of PS+ (now PS Plus Essential) is $60/year. 1 year of PS+ Premium is $120. So they value your 1 year of PS+ code as $60 and give you 6 months of PS+ Premium.
So it SEEMS instead of extending my current Premium membership with this deal.

Make a NEW PSN+ account and buy 10 essentials and extra 100 to upgrade it to Premium.

Of course it would be annoying to make a new PSN+ account But you'd be paying around 55/year for premium for 10 years.

Otherwise just extending your current premium membership means your paying 45 (50 now since paypalcode is dead) for 6 months of prem.

So I would generally buy PSPlus cards when they went on sale, never spending more than ~$30. I upgrade for $150 to premium and my next 13 years is premium now lmao. It said I saved over a thousand dollars.

Given the timing of how the economy is doing, and that we have a new multi-tier service to worry about, the price bump does not surprise me.

Plus, a lot of these codes are in third party sellers' hands. They set the prices.

If only there was something good in the game catalog that I couldn't just buy used for $20 and save the rest of the money. I'm no longer falling for any company to make anything better in the future. I'll buy it when it's actually released because hope and promise only get so far. All these reboots of crap from 10 years ago. So no game developers actually exist anymore? This is outsourced code upgrades, no actual thinking or creating going on still, years after the ps5 is released we're playing PS2 games. Weee yay. Totally worth it.

I agree. I was about to upgrade but then I decided to actually look at the catalog, and realized $100/$150 wouldn't be worth it for me.

I just upgraded my subscription (expires in 2029) to extra for $100. Since I usually don't buy games until they drop way down in price, this works out pretty well for me.

So if you buy the Premium for $150 there is no need to buy the essential annually? I am just looking for the ability to play multi-player games online, not really concerned with any other benefits.

I am still lost here. How many years can you stack or is that still a question?

Premium for $150 is the cost of upgrading an existing PS+ Essential tier to Premium for something like 2 years. It's also the cap. So even if you are converting 10 years of PS+ Essential, they still only charge $150. If you are converting 3 months of PS+ Essential, it might be something like $15 for PS+ Premium.

To play multiplayer games online, you need a PS+ Essential membership unless the game is free to play. So you can play Rocket League, Apex Legends, Fortnite, etc. without a PS+ subscription, but to play Call of Duty or Madden, you need PS+.

Meh, I think sony will have to sweeten the pot more to be competitive to gamepass. I would hold off for now.

They'll need to show velocity in signups, somehow, and they have the weaker product. Their streaming service is not as good and their selection of games lags gamepass. So, unless something changes, they will have to compete on price lest they be seen losing the console war.
