I wouldn't make claims anything HF sells is "quality", but it is exactly what it claims to be - cheap, effective tools. The guy you're replying to is ridiculous..

The specific conditions to warrant buying a high quality tool are - you use it a lot and/or the quality of construction makes a significant difference.

HF really does a great job at hitting the vastly larger market of people who don't need a high quality tool, just one that gets a job or two done. It's ridiculous to rip on them for making tools available at a lower price.

Maybe twenty years ago it was okay to rip on HF because their quality was lower than the other "cheap" tools.. Now even all the brand names are made in China by the same plants. You have to go much more expensive to get really quality tools now, it's not as easy to justify. Even expensive tools these days are just mediocre.

Stores other than HF are worse to shop at tbh, because all the brands and versions of things it's easy to get tricked into thinking you're buying a quality tool when it's not. Look at Amazon, many of their tools are rebranded generic alibaba stuff for 2x the price at HD, trying to make it look like they're high quality by charging more and getting fake reviews.
At least at HF you know what you're getting.
Really, you wouldn't claim *anything* HFT sells is quality? Have you ever seen the candy apple red paint job on their $290 three ton Daytona jack with CNC milled mag wheels? The ICON socket sets and their knock-off Knipex pliers wrench pliers? Even the Quinn level pliers are very high quality... with lifetime warranties as well.

I'm sorry, but I think we may just disagree here. Yes, some of their stuff is a bit junky (ie - their Pgh brand hook and pick set is a bit rough IMO, for ex), but so much of HFT's tools, esp amongst their better Quinn and Doyle line, let alone ICON are really excellent quality.

These place act like they sell high end quality tools at a great deals. Even with the coupon all items are overprice. Most of the tools are JUNK. Good for one time disposal usage.
I'd agree about their power and air tools, but Pittsburgh hand tools with life time warranty are fine for everything except professional use. Even then I know professional mechanics with some Pittsburgh tools in their box.

I bought a set of impact socket from them 14+ years ago and they crack on first use. Never came back for warranty exchange. Well, I just went there just recently on Memorial sale since I was looking for a cheap fluid pump (one time use) I figure to bring the socket set in the metal box and paper sleeve (pittspurgh brand) for warranty exchange. The store manager look at it and give me this BS... where do you get these from? We don't sell such thing...Do you have receipt? I told him well Pittspurgh is written all over the wall and the only place sell them is here. The paper sleeve cover also read life time warranty as well. He told me well, I don't know where you get these from and without receipt so i can't exchange them. Then decided to lookup the SKU# and there it is on his screen discontinue item. Did give me an exchange but he wasn't happy like he just loss revenue or a deduction from his paycheck. Than I also gave him a 1/2" torque wrench also pittpurgh brand that it can never be adjusted to or correct ft lbs... his attitue is about to explode. Bottom line it not just that store but other stores and accross the states as well, like they are being trained to be company man that i just don't get. While I was in there to buy a Quinn digital torque meter because the pittspurgh 5 stars rating wasn't working well, the guy was doing stocking say there is a coupon running right now for 25% off... I told him in a long time I haven't received any coupon in the mail i thought they stop? He say well they are digital now, did you have email on file? I say yes and didn't get anything only reciept each time I buy something. Anyway, I ask if he had the coupon and if I could have it... and at that moment the environment change immediately. He told me you have to look for it bla bla... Seriously, these people are just trained to be company man. Story short, many tools I purchased from this place are junk and now that I've seen their price rise close to brand name tools, it just don't make any sense to shop there anymore beside for crowbar or small things to be honest.

I can understand where you are coming from but I have to respectfully disagree. HF tools at the least are minimally homeowner grade products, have their products increased in quality somewhat I'd say more so cosmetically in order to justify a higher price point but a tool is more than its appearance and if it is a knock off of a major product the engineering behind the manufacturing, materials used, alloys etc are unseen.

In these tough economic times we all look for ways to help our business survive without passing on the expense to others, but the risk associated with injury far outweighs the fiscal need to cost contain. small business owners deal with issues like employee misuse and theft and despite that safety is paramount, humans do misuse products and low quality tool utilization increases the risk probability.

Just take a screen shot on your phone of coupon (after you blow it up) and use that... they'll happily accept that (the 20% one, that is).

I got a sweet deal on their mistake. Bought the smallest trailer on a 20% coupon. Saw that they have the 25% off and asked if I could apply that instead. But I would have to buy the 1 year membership. I asked if I would be saving still and they said yes. In reality I wouldn't but it looks like they gave me an extra discount by restocking the item for me to purchase again. In the end, I got a bigger discount and free membership!

Depends on the cashier person. But typically they have the coupon from either the first person that presented it or have a copy laying around, so they'll scan that to make the process easier. Some will ask to present it via phone/print. Either way, they need to input/scan the code for it to work.

Harbor has a standing 20% coupon or at least a weekly coupon. Always excludes the things you want/need Wink I have tossed countless 20%-25% coupons to Harbor because I have bought just about everything I wanted/needed under the exclusions that the only things left are the things of value in the exclusion list.

I think I might buy a Snap-On tool chest if you can find me one for $3k. That said, most Snap-On hand tools are ABSOLUTELY made in the USA. Are they expensive, even overpriced, yeah... but the hand tools are also mostly all made in USA. There are rebrand exceptions here and there, but the vast majority are made in America.

I was just bouncing in to say the same. I left pissed off last time after leaving after yes my fault didnt read the fine print. And yes nothing of true real value in saving a good chunk of money is worth truly worth rushing in to buy with this coupon. They with the fine print take it all away.

I've read that their impact socket sets are pretty decent, which seems to be eligible for this
Anyone have any experience with them?
They're ok. Really thick and they skip sizes so you kind of need both sets to cover everything. You can get complete sets from Tekton and whatever northern tools house brand is for around the same price.

I did an entire engine and tranny swap using Pittsburg hand tools. Which is something the majority of people here are not ever going to attempt. I've actively tried breaking my Pittsburg wrenches as an excuse to get a new set. They are not breaking.

The tools are fine. Are they snap on quality? Course not. But a lot of mechanics will tell you snap on is the biggest rip off out there.

One of the best reviewed independent shops in my area is full of harbor freight tools. Hell snap on sued harbor freight for selling the same jack as them for a fraction of the cost.

I'm not saying they are indestructible. But most of their tools will work perfect for the vast majority of people that know how to use tools properly.

Stop being a fanboy for brands. Those companies don't care about you. And they all moved to china to be build by the same people who build HF tools. Crazy how some red or yellow paint makes people fork over money.
