They really need to put the 400nit screen in all of these and charge $50 more.

Experts, is this a good laptop for my dad who uses it for few spreadsheet, banking, browsing and rare basic photo edits? How is AMD's heat dissipation in a constant 100+ degree weather with minimal AC and also HP in general? The last HP pavilion laptop ( not a cheap one) I bought lasted couple of years before the screen stopped working. Has the reliability improved?

Main issue for me is lack of full keyboard, which dad needs.. else this checked all the boxes!
I literally had to double check and make sure I didn't comment this. I'm looking for a laptop for the exact same reason. And for the exact same reason, this one doesn't work

While this is a great 2in1, I went to bestbuy with my HP digital pen and it does not work. The Intel version of the laptop work with the pen but not this one. Finger works for sure.

I was hoping to use it for note taking with the pen. I also try the Dell next to it and the pen works there. Just the HP pen does not work with this touch screen.

Not sure if any care but just to share.
Pen does work with this one and HP official site sell multiple models with MPP 2.0 PENS. That's same tech used in Surface devices. Try one of the MPP 2.0 Pens.

I guess I have the last gen pen from HP then. Only the MPP 2.0 pen works? I went and test with surface, my old pen does not work with surface also.

So, I suppose the laptop will need a new pen then.

I have a similar one from HP, did not say it support MPP2 and likely not going to work.

If you have the laptop, you can buy and try and return if it does not work.

There are multiple Pen technologies and even a single manufacturer uses different Pen technologies in their different laptops or change that in their new refresh of the same model. You need to check the platform specification of that exact series or model to find out what kind of Pen will work on it. The way you were coming to the decision that "Pen does not work on this" was not the correct way.
To answer your question, normally a device is built to support a specific Pen technology and only Active stylus supporting that would work with that device. This model has MPP 2.0 protocol and only that type of Pen will work.

Apart from Apple, currently there are 3 main Pen technologies, WACOM AES (Used in lot of laptops and pretty good for drawing and digital arts and tilt support), WACOM EMR which is currently arguably the best solution and used in high end devices. All the Samsung high end Galaxy Tablets and their 2-in-1 Yoga Style laptops use this technology. This has very low response time and hence the drawing delay is very low. Also, they don't need any power to operate. You see that some of them still needing charging but that is for the extra Bluetooth functionalities embedded in that device.
The 3rd technology is N-TRIG which was purchased by Microsoft and now called MPP or Microsoft Pen Protocol. The current revision is MPP 2.0 and it is more or less comparable to WACOM AES.
There is another standard becoming popular is called USI or Universal Stylus Initiative which is trying to create a generalized Pen protocol for all touchscreen devices and if implemented, will work on all devices supporting active Stylus. Google is pushing this in all their Chrome OS based Touchscreen devices and Android Tablets. However, it is far from being accepted as Universal standard by main manufacturers.

That clearly says "Get a precise writing with this Dell Active Pen (AES)" which means it is based on WACOM AES technology and won't work. Read my previous post for a better understanding of different pen technologies and how you can identify which pen will be supported in a specific device.

Not a 2-in-1, not a touch screen, only 14".

Thanks for all the info. I have a HP stylus pen that is for Wacom.... Not sure it is AES or EMR. But I know it works on the many Dell and HP and Acer. Not for surface and this newer HP for the reason you explained.

It is definitely an AES. EMR is very rare and mainly used in very high end devices and in Samsung devices. HP normally uses WACOM AES and MPP Pen protocol.
