Not an expert by any means but have been obsessively researching C1 vs A80J for the past few weeks for myself. The general consensus seems to be C1 if you're a gamer (4 HDMI 2.1 ports, better response time) and A80J if you're a casual all-around viewer who does tv/movies most of the time (the XR chip/sony programming is unmatched for upscaling, smoothness, and colors). A huge oversimplification I'm sure but that was my take on the debate. If it helps I just pulled the trigger on the $999 A80J deal at Amazon. Would've loved that 3-yr costco warranty but it appears to be OOS/won't ship to my part of the country (NYC).

When I was deciding between LG C1 or Sony on the OLED, I went with Sony for these reason:

The color right out of the box looks more accurate (select expert1) and with minor tuning it will look good enough for me without having to pay someone to calibrate it.

It use Google TV, instead of WebOs, have more apps. I use Kodi and VLC to stream my videos from my computer to the TV. The chip in the Sony is strong enough for my video decoding.

The Sony also seem to upscale 720p/1080p better than the LG,, or in way it makes it easier, I can just turn the reality creation to auto or manual 30 and it will look pretty good.

The sound on the Sony is really good for tv speakers. This TV have their Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology which the screen actually vibrates like a speaker to produce clear sound and it also have a subwoofer. It was good enough for me that I didn't even need to re-hook up my old sound bar. you can just select sound to cinema and it will give you some virtual around sound .. you can change some equalizer settings to give it a bit more base .
something like this
125Hz on +6
250Hz on +4
500Hz on +2
1kHz on 0
2kHz on 0
4kHz on +2
8kHz on +4

have 3 USB input. 2 on the side and 1 USB 3.0 in the back.

3 Year Manufacturer Warranty
2 yr. Bravia Core Streaming + 10 Movie Credits

But if you use your Costco Citi Creditcard purchase , when the warranties run out. you will then get an extra 24 months added to your warranty. So that would add up to 5 years for warranty. 3 years of Manufacturer warranty and 2 years of Costco Citicard warranty .

But if you add in the extra all state 3 year ($65), it can add up to 7 years if you use a Costco Citi card,

*Year 1, 2 & 3 - Manufacturer warranty. Allstate enrollment provides additional coverage for Years 3, 4 and 5. and Costco Citi card will be year 6 and 7.

For the movie watchers, what would you do? Buy the LG C1 with EVO panel or get this Sony?

A lot of concern of warranty here. Do these things have a large percentage that break within 3 years? I'm still using my plasmas from over 10 years ago. Is this a planned obsolescence thing similar to newer refrigerators and washing machines? And now TVs?

Hmm I usually watch movies. I have the LG C1 55 inch with the EVO panel and the 3 additional years warranty with Allstate. Should I return the LG and buy this Sony instead?

Note, this Sony does not have the additional Allstate warranty included.

Anybody with experience with these 2 models of TV, which would you go with for movies? There are only a couple left here so I wanted to see what you would recommend. I am ready to go pick it up today.
wrestled with this decision myself before deciding on the Sony about a year ago and couldn't be happier. 95% of the time I'm watching movies and they look stunning. Like darkice81 mentioned and rtings agree as well if you are going to watch movies go with the Sony

I would have bought this months ago if Costco had the 55 size. I got lucky in the meantime and jumped on a samsung s95b deal ($1050) but this is a great deal.

Just pulled the trigger after getting the $200 Gift Card through the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa promo. With 5% back it'll be something like $820 or so out of pocket.

Had to pull the trigger on this.. been wanting to upgrade the master bedroom TV for a while. Picked this up today at Costco in San Diego.. couldn't find any initially, had to ask and was told they just got them in last night and hadn't been put out on the floor yet. They got one down for me, was $999 + $25 CA e-waste fee. Manufacturing date on the one I got is June of 2022, so its a fresh build (its on a sticker on the back of the TV, not on the outside box). Very happy with it so far, need to dig into the fine tuning stuff but just out of the box the picture is incredible. Only downside is that now my living room TV (Sony X900H) isn't going to look so good by comparison!

Seems like a good deal with 3 years warranty, any idea how remote control and Google TV compare to LG C1 web OS and LG magic remote?

The 55 C1 that I have shows it is a WBE panel which is EVO. That is really the only reason why I am debating in returning the C1 in order to get the Sony A80CJ.
where did u get ur c1?

I don't understand how this got to 9.0 on rtings for reflections when it looks like it's a pretty bad glare from windows. I need a tv that will be mounted directly opposite a big window.

I bought it in April 2022 from Costco in Laguna Niguel, CA. I bought the 55 inch based on the "P" showing on the outside of the box. Set it up and used software to connect through the WiFi to check to make sure it was a WBE panel and it was.

Then in June 2022, got a 48 inch with the "P" in it and that too was WBE panel. I ended up returning the 48 inch because it looked too small.

The C1 55 inch are all sold out at many Southern California Costco's.
