I bought two of these from HSN the other day for a total of $55 with tax after 16% cash back and $50 referral. I'll add the two lines to my account and get 14,000 points, which I can then use for extending service of buying more data. On top of that, the two lines I will have can then be used for all kinds of deals on SD (for example, Microcenter coupons that are linked to phone numbers).
So $55 out of pocket for two lines of service for a year, $140 worth of Tracfone points, and two unlocked crappy phones. Even at $40 for one, it's a pretty good deal. Yes, it's not the greatest phone, but you are paying $40 for 1 year of service, a phone, and $70-80 worth of points. Not sure what people are expecting for $40.

These phones are fair, people seem to hate them, but it seems the hardware cost is more than what they charge here, and I am not talking about the service that's also included.
Activate the phone first, then sign up for rewards with a valid promo code.
Use a top tier one that will get you 8,000 rewards points ($80 value) when you sign up. Most only will get you 5,000 ($50 value)

I'm surprised to hear you lost points during a transfer. I've definitely had issues with losing minutes/data on the service that transferred, but I have two accounts that still have points even though there isn't an active line in the account. Could they have created a new account during the transfer? Just wondering if you now have two accounts and your old points are still out there somewhere.
