Walgreens has 2 different Colgate deals right now. Buy 2 get $2 in Walgreens cash and buy 2 get $4 in Walgreens cash. They also have separate coupons that you can stack to basically get some stuff for free. Here is an example of what I ordered.
Add 2 and clip $4 coupon (you'll get $2 back in Walgreens rewards)

I agree that as I read the post, I'm not sure what the economics exactly are in this deal. However it seems like it's a good deal regardless.
On a related note, I see people double count the rewards money. They buy these deals because of the economics of this deal but then later on post excitedly that they used the reward money on a separate deal and how the reward money improved the economics of the separate deal.

Initially I missed this subtle shift to "Register reward". First time I didn't get anything, I chatted with the Walgreens and they credited me the points. Next time it happened, the guy explained to me that these were register rewards that should have printed out on the catalina printer and if there was an issue, I needed to contact catalina. What a pain in the rear. Catalina did send me the rewards but I stay away from these since clearly my store catalina printer is all busted since it happened twice to me. It might be might local store problem.
