Laundry detergent does get weaker (go bad) with age. So don't buy to much and keep in a cool/dry place so it last longer.

Yea what happens is the pod gets wrapped in some clothing and does not get enough water to open fast enough.
What I found that works all the time is put the pod in the washer all the way to the rear/side. Then pour a cup of water on it. I keep a red plastic cup on my washer for this. That makes it start to open faster so when the water does get to it the pac is already soft or slightly open.
Never had an issue after I started to do that.
