Not sure if it'll be bright enough but my kid needs a laptop for middle school and this checks all the boxes. Been waiting on it to go clearance ($.97) Wish it had Wi-Fi 6 though. He'll survive as his school probably won't!

Just curious, what are you thoughts on this vs zenbook 14 oled deal from best buy over the weekend? This is 60 dollars more but has 16gb ram and touchscreen.

I was debating the same thing. RAM is the bigger factor for me.
Battery life should be better on this one.

Solid deal here. Note that this is the IdeaPad 5 Pro, which AFAIK doesn't have the hinge issues that the Ideapad 5 non-pro does.

I have a little higher spec'ed version of this, and it's been great over the last year. And it's been to Mexico and all over the country.

Where's the guy that wants a touch screen from the thinkbook post a couple days ago? This is his chance.

Costco guy told me yesterday about the price drop and I wanted to buy it but looking into the spec looks like usb-c does not support display, just power. Bummer. I was hoping to connect two displays to this nice unit but now thinking.. This has dropped $50 every week. So next week another $50??

I believe this will be the last drop with the $.97 clearance price.

Also the spec says:
2x USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 (Support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 & DisplayPort 1.4)

How is durability on these compared to thinkpad L or T series? Any hinge issues?

More than good enough. This has enough power for anything a college student is likely to run, and the graphics is decent enough for light gaming.

I would check to see if a PC is preferred over a Chromebook. Most schools use Google Apps and a Chromebook is better suited. The PC can run Google apps but it's like buying a Mustang GT and only being able to drive it around a parking lot. A Chromebook would only run you $150-200 for an exceptional model. If the PC is for gaming then even an entry level gaming PC would out perform this lappy.

The USB-C does support video.

No hinge issues on the Pro models (which this is).
