Really wish Lenovo would stop soldering their RAM.

Then you'll have to buy the cheap laptops - I think generally IdeaPad 3 and below have at least 1 SODIMM - or ThinkPad, although even there soldered RAM is increasingly the norm.

How does this Lenovo compare to the Asus Zenbook from this deal? General usage of office applications, media consumption and some gaming

https://slickdeals.net/f/15878683-asus-zenbook-14-oled-laptop-i5-1240p-evo-8gb-lpddr5-256gb-nvme-ssd...
for the screen, ASUS wins by a large margin.
but if u want to do anything beyond basic office task, i would go with lenovo

You can't pay me enough to use a Lenovo. There is a reason the CIA, DoD, and other government agencies not only will not allow them on their networks, but also highly recommend that their employees do not use them (I've been in these briefings). But if you're not a high-risk individual, and you don't mind being spied upon by the Chinese government, then go ahead and use a Lenovy.

WiFi 5? For real?

You can rip out WFi antenna and replace it with Wifi 7 if you are complaining about 5. 😅

Antenna doesn't matter, wifi card does; it could well be soldered.

Absolutely true statement. Not a conspiracy theory.

Great deal if you get a good one. I'm pretty done with refurbs as the last two I got had issues. One from Acer on eBay and the other from Lenovo.

But maybe worth the chance at $509 for a 5800U laptop.
Which issues did you experience with your purchases? I've only purchased 1 refurb laptop so far (Dell Latitude E7470) and it actually came in brand-new condition. I bought it from Dell Refurbished about a year ago and it still works fine. (Maybe I got lucky.)

Interesting note: On the bottom it has a blue sticker with black print: "REFURBISHED to Dell specifications by FedEx Supply Chain". I thought that was odd!

Acer from Acer direct had scuff on corned, dent/scuff on bottom. Rubber pad torn so laptop tilts to left. I could live with it, but since the scuffs/dents looked like from drops I was very skeptical on how long it would last. Acer would not replace, only return. Wouldn't provide new pad/parts/shell or partial refund so it went back.

Lenovo thinkpad had issue with fans going crazy and high temps. Didn't bother trying to fix just sent back.

Searching around these refurbished laptops usually get a new shell if possible making them look like new. I don't think many people would keep the Acer I got as it looks USED not refurbished. They sell used laptops as well and they are cheaper than refurbished. People expect it to at least free of large scuffs/dents if not buying used.

But many people have good experiences with refurbished laptops. It's a risk and on a laptop like this the price is great for the performance of the laptop.

Ugh! Those are serious issues. I am disappointed to hear Acer and Lenovo would sell laptops in that condition as "refurbished." Frown

There is no way I would pay for a refurbished unit and KEEP something that was clearly in used condition. Any company that tries that is not honorable in my view!

I was as well and went back and forth with Acer on eBay to get a replacement. They kept saying warranty policy doesn't allow and to return it. After that I just sent it back and not bothering ordering another one. I'm suspicious they just slapped a refurbished sticker on a used laptop since they have the same model on their store in used condition as well for cheaper.

This is a tempting one though since it's so cheap for a 5800U laptop. I just ordered a HP Aero with 5625U and similar specs for $570. $60 cheaper and upgrade to 8 core 5800U.

That's horrible. Acer sells a lot of refurbished stuff in their eBay store (kind of popular now on slickdeals due to the 12% additional coupon on eBay), so I am not wondering how many of those are in bad condition.Confused

The HP Aero sounds like a good buy! Applause
