Roku 4k stick is on sale as well for $30 from normally $50. The only real distinction from the 4k Express+, aside from form factor is the stick has Dolby Vision. However the Express+ can use a USB to Ethernet Dongle to go hard wire.

I use Roku Ultra on my TCL S546. I use Roku on all my TVs actually. They're faster and easier to use. My only problem is that channels are very limited compared to some android streaming devices where you can sideload most of the android apps out there.

I have both and they each are good. It's a matter of preference. Roku does have more free TV.

Streaming stick also doesnt require line of sight to work with the stick/Roku controls. Only requires line of sight for controlling your TV volume and power.

Anyone own this device AND the Chromecast with Google TV device? If so, how do the two compare in your opinion?

I'm not sure the Express+ requires line of sight. They both have voice capability. Unless you put an IR tranceiver on the ceiling, I don't see that working unless the remote is radio and not IR. The bottom barrel Express is IR, I got one on the $10 deal a week or so ago.

I'll start out by saying that I don't own the Roku Express, but I own a Google Chromecast Ultra 4K, Chromecast with Google TV, Fire TV Stick 4K (2019), Apple TV 4K (1st gen) and 2 Roku Ultras (2019, 2020).

I recently dumped cable and switched to YouTube TV as my primary TV provider. While YouTube TV is supported on all of the devices, the Chromecast with Google TV integration between YouTube TV and other service providers is outstanding. Searching for a TV show or movie gives you results showing all of the ways (and services and costs, if any) to watch it.

I have both the Chromecast with Google TV, the Fire TV Stick 4K and Apple TV all connected to the same TV. I use the Chromecast primarily for YouTube TV, the Apple TV for Apple TV+ and anything in my Apple library, and the Fire TV Stick 4K for everything else (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc).

Looking at devices in the same price range, between the Chromecast with Google TV and the Fire TV Stick 4K, I find that I get a much better picture with the Fire TV Stick. Its not necessarily the device itself, as I have seen the Chromecast do great, but I think the WiFi performance is better on the Fire TV Stick. I've switched between the 2, watching the same show streaming on Netflix or Hulu, and the Fire TV Stick seems to manage WiFi better.

I have tcl google tv and really need a streaming device to attach and can't decide between Roku or firestick. I use essentially every streaming service and just want the best picture quality matched with fast processor

I was so excited for the Chromecast with Google but I was extremely disappointed. It's much more buggy than Roku. I ended up going back to my Roku and don't use the Google one

I'm have mostly fire tv streaming devices. I did get a Roku express base model because of the lingering. Problem with Vudu stuck on SD. Works great. There was a period where FTV pulled ahead, that no longer feels to be the case. If I had a need I'd grab one.

I've had the Roku Premier for 15 months - overall works great but I've noticed a bar of white light from the lower edge of my screen when streaming from it, the light doesn't appear when playing video from other sources so it's definitely the Roku - annoying when watching letterbox video such as movies - EDIT - I changed the display settings from Autodetect to 4k @ 60Hz and the light bar appears to have gone away

I've been using two of these for about a year now. Great little device. A little slow to load apps maybe, but not anywhere close to a deal breaker. No issues in all the time I've been using mine.

And I can confirm, you don't need line of sight for the remote to control it. In fact, if you want, you can use a mobile device with the app to control it, too. For $25, it's a really solid device
