Does this model still have the voltage regulator chip that regularly fails and sends 12v to your soldered SSD frying all your data and costing you $1200 to fix at the Apple store? One reviewer had 3 die the same way.

Which reviewer? I've been googling this for the last 10 minutes and nothing is coming up.

I looked for the reviewer too. I saw the videos back when these new models launched in October of last year. Louis Rossman, a MacBook repair YouTuber said these fail all the time too. Enough to make me too scared to buy one back last year. I'm curious if Apple ever fixed the design flaw or are they just raking in the $$$$ for repairs.
I've been using an M1 Pro 16" as my workhorse/breadwinner machine since early November and it's been excellent. It spends 5 days a week running IDEs and compiling code and I've never had any trouble out of it and it's always been cool and inaudible even while under stress. Pair it with a CalDigit TB4 dock and a nice monitor and you've got quite a lot of power in a quiet, well-built package with great battery life.
I also have a custom-built gaming tower running Windows and I wish it had the performance per watt of the MacBook… just insane how different they are in terms of heat output and power consumption given how small the gap between them is in real world performance in many cases.
