Download and run an application called HWinfo64.
In one of the windows you will see a Summary, in the tree click on Memory and it should tell you how much and what type of RAM you have installed. If you see two rows under Memory it means you have 2 sticks. It will also say the type and speed, eg "8 GB PC4-28700 DDR4..." so you should buy preferably memory that matches yours (same brand, same speed) or better speed (for instance if yours is PC4-24000, then this one PC4-28800) should work.
Another thing you need to do, is to find out how many memory slots your motherboard has; for that click on Motherboard above Memory and then on the right side you should have a link and when you click on it it may take you to specifications page, if not, google the motherboard model.
I hope this helps.

18/3600=X nanoseconds latency
16/3200=X nanoseconds latency
In a vacuum, the lower the latency the better.

the biggest thing is that i'm assuming you're talking about a desktop PC, not a laptop. the second biggest thing is to match DDR (make sure your PC is DDR4 compatible). after that, there are a few considerations like how many slots does your PC have (usually either 2 or 4), are you replacing existing ones or adding to existing ones? if you're replacing existing ones, you probably have very little to worry about - just plug these in and enable XMP/DOCP in your BIOS. if you're adding to existing ones, you want to consider capacity, frequency, and timing/latency. not gonna go too much into that yet without knowing your situation.

I'm looking at getting the MSI MAG B660 mortar board with the 12400 cpu. Will this memory work with XMP? i can't seem to find an answer online.

MSI MAG B660 MB is DDR4 MB so this memory definitely will work
and to see the full speed you must have XMP enabled so MB read and benefit the speed or if you going to OC.

Probably the easiest thing to know if your system is compatible is to look up your motherboard model number and then see what the motherboard manufacturer recommends as far as type and maximum allowed speed. Easy way to find the motherboard is download a program called speccy. It should tell you what motherboard model you have. Then you can google it. Go to the companies website and there should be a manual talking about memory max capacity, memory type and speed. And whether it's XMP (Intel) or DOCP (AMD) capable. XMP and DOCP are the same thing. It's essentially a pre installed overclock tune that the memory is designed for.

I have the 16 gig black version of this. I wonder if it's OK to add this to my extra 2 slots.
