Are you planning to travel? Do you love going into museums or science centers? Would you like to get in free to a bunch of places?

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History Cleveland Museum of Natural History [blackbaudhosting.com] is having a special on their "Pack" membership - $75 (50% off) for a year of membership. The Pack membership includes 1 year of admission for 2 adults + children of the household + caregiver pass + 2 guests per visit. Reciprocity with ASTC, NARM, and ROAM.

Enroll in auto renew and receive 50% with the code JOINTHEPACK

Note: museum memberships and reciprocal organizations are pretty scattered, but (a) it's rare to see an ASTC, ROAM, and NARM under a single banner (the one in Calif that used to have it no longer does) and (b) you generally need to be more than (15/25/50/90 miles) from your "home" museum (and your home for science centers) to get reciprocal benefits. That's to keep big museums from poaching entry fees from members in their own metro area, of course, but it can drive some frugal users to get an out-of-state membership and bypass all the locals. There is very little within 90 miles of Cleveland, so you're unlikely to hit a blackout museum.

Okay, but what kind of coverage are we looking at? Here links to the three lists:

ASTC - https://www.astc.org/membership/f.../passport/

ROAM - https://sites.google.com/site/roa...am-museums

NARM - https://narmassociation.org/members/ (link to the full PDF list [narmassociation.org] is at the bottom of the page

That's a lot of museums in a lot of cities. For $75 there's a good chance it will pay for itself in a single visit - definitely so if you have a couple of kids. And science centers are a great way to keep younger kids entertained for half a day.

Disclaimer: there is no disclaimer; I'm not affiliated with the Cleveland Museum in any way except that I bought this (at full price) for my family earlier this year. Heck, I don't even live in Cleveland. I've only had the chance to use it once so far and was given the "premium" wrist band for access to all of the museum extras just by mentioning we were ROAM members. YMMV (we also made a small donation on the way out; I'm cheap, but not heartless)

I have used the NARM benefit with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Membership. I can answer a few questions.

- You will get your membership in the mail but many now have digital memberships. You can use either for the NARM Benefit.
- In my experience, every museum I've gone to didn't check I had a membership to the original museum. I just mentioned I wanted to use my NARM benefit.
- Many museums with NARM benefits will have a special "$0" price tag when buying tickets online or a promo code you use for NARM tickets. I successfully bought the tickets and no one checked for eligibility at the door so it was seamless.
- For NARM, the stipulation I've seen is the # of free tickets is usually equal to the package you bought at the original museum. If you bought a solo membership, 1 free ticket. Family membership, 2 free tickets.
- OP mentions there are no blackouts in the Cleveland area. The botanical gardens are fantastic in Cleveland and is on the black out list.
- NARM membership list is here: https://narmassociation.org/members/

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but keep in mind a number of museums on all the lists always have free entry. I find it a bit dishonest that the list gets bloated by free museums.
Astc website says, "Make sure the science center or museum you are visiting is not located within 90 miles of either your home residence or the science center or museum that you belong to."
check the ROAM, NARM, and ASTC links above for participating museums.

Always look at your local zoo, museum, aquarium or garden for membership benefits.
My local zoo is free but gives $75+ worth benefit for membership. That membership can be used to get 50%-100% discounts at other zoos/aquariums. The membership pays for itself and all the extra savings are additional for traveling.

Does this renew at $75 or back to $150 next year?

I was paying $125/yr for a regional art museum just to go to my local museums that charged more for the same level of family membership. $75 is a nice deal with the added benefit of ATSC. Normally I would support my local/regional/state museums but $75 is hard to pass. Thanks OP.

Visiting The Franklin Institute once would definitely pay for it. I live in Philly though so no go for me. Have to check the "radial distance" for my sister. She is about 110 miles away by car but likely will fall into the 90 mile circle.
Years ago I used my membership at a local museum for the Franklin institute. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned by the original poster; often only a portion of the museum is actually available. The Franklin institute, for example, seem to be about 1/4 to 1/3 special exhibits and was inaccessible. There is an art museum in DC that was 1/3 to 1/2 special exhibits that were inaccessible

No, that means that if you are a family of 4, all 4 need to be living at the same residence. Obviously, they don't ask for children's IDs, but if you have 2 adults on the card they need to have IDs with the same address
"If you see the notation "Proof of Residence Required" next to a museum, it means that your Photo ID must also indicate that your home address also exceeds a 90-mile distance from that museum in order to be eligible for reciprocal benefits."

Yes, but only for people who are not too lazy to look up which ones by themselves. OP even provided the links right under "Participating museums by association"...

A little effort, please.

This ^^. Has nothing to do with all living at same address. Has to do with your home residence distance from museum you are trying to use it at.

In other words, your best bet is museums farther from you, like when road tripping. Therefore, the reciprocity is not as useful as one would think. The ones closest to you won't work (usually ymmv).

None of the really major museums in NYC (Met, MoMA, Natural History, Whitney) are covered, sadly.

True, although the Frick seems to be included, which I would consider one of the top museums in the city.

Every six months or so they have temporary or traveling expositions. These are always a separate fee, discounted for members. Things like the Theater and sky bike are also extra.

The last time I took my nieces, it was to see the Jurassic World expo.

If you go to the USS intrepid in NYC this will pay off big time. Usually $33 per person.

But check your local museum, it may be pretty affordable. Can't use ASTC in your home town or anywhere w/in 90 mi of home.

I have 3 adults in one address. Can person A and B use it once and on a different trip person B and C use it? One family. 2 adults at a time. Not always the same adults.

My guess is that it won't renew at that price. The reason it is so cheap now is because a lot of the museum is closed for major renovations that now appear will take a little longer into 2023. We are somewhat recent members at the lowest family membership and received a flyer about being upgraded to this level along with the notes about the further temporary closures. For example, the planetarium has been closed since last year and their main dinosaur isn't there (they still have multiple dinos, but their named one is replaced by a smaller temporary one). Once they are reopened to full or close, the price will probably return to normal.

Try the smaller city zoos that are still AZA accrediated. We are members of the Akron Zoo and its family membership is reasonable and gets us half-off at many zoos. Zoo reciprocity has mostly moved to "half off" instead of full like it was 10 years ago (unless that's just ours), but still good if you go to many of them. But if you are going to go to one in particular, then best to get its membership rather than only get half-off. We usually do go to Cleveland/Columbus once each year, so the half off there is big savings.
