Max is about 33% faster real world to launch multiple apps over time (likely since it can cache more in memory).

FWIW: If you don't need or want 4K support (too small a screen or sit to far back to really tell the difference; or only have 1080p panels, or have internet bandwidth caps), then I'd consider the regular FireTV stick (3rd gen - 2020 version) as it is newer than the 4K (2018) stick, performs nearly the same (within 10%--having virtually the same specs just less RAM), and sells for $17. If you want/need 4K then splurge for the $35 Max to get that extra perf and longer term updates/support instead of settling for the $25 middle one that's older hardware and base operating system anyway.

The new fire stick 4K max is great, got it for $20 with the QVC deal not too long ago. The only bad part is the ad-ridden Amazon layout but that can be remedied as well.

You need to make sure not to update device if you want remove all bloatware (using the debloat toolbox) and make it run like a android TV device by choosing the custom launcher which blocks automatic updates. You can reprogram the Netflix, Disney plus and Hulu buttons as well as long as you don't have them installed.

The updates need to blocked on first boot since in the new firmware Amazon has made the bloat apps protected. This is the adb shell command for clearing the downloaded ota update.

I didn't know the stick "lite" existed, it's only $12 but it doesn't have volume controls on the remote! Weird concession, especially since the regular stick is $17. Obviously these devices are to upgrade an older, non 4K TV, but not having volume control to save $5 doesn't seem worth it.

I got the Lite from a Discovery+ promo, I agree it's rather annoying. I use it on a bedroom TV (not constantly changing volume levels), so the volume control is less annoying than missing the power button. A second remote is needed to power on and off the TV.

Get one with TV controls. The Lite and regular stick are not 4k, not that a 4k stick would benefit any older, non 4K TV.

I need a player that can stream over ethernet (RJ45 CAT5e wiring) via DLNA from my PC in another part of the house.

These Amazon products do not have that capability. Can anyone recommend a player in this price range that can it it for HD and 4k signal?

I think the trade off has to do with the cost of including an IR transmitter in order to control the TV.

You can buy an ethernet adapter for any of the Fire sticks.

Another odd difference, but unless it's changed on the 4k stick the Max lets you control Bluetooth headset volume (ones that don't have volume control on them so basically all wireless ear buds) with the remote while the normal 4k does not.

The ring cam worked without Alexa. It gave me additional $6 off - ring privacy. No idea what is that for. Both colors.

Are these going to be cheaper tomorrow for prime day ? Looks like I can get another 20% off if I send in my older FireTV that's not being used.
Not sure it worth the upgrade though coming from the 4k stick that's using Ethernet adapter so WiFi 6 doesn't really matter for me at least.
