Gen2 has higher resolution camera with some degree of autotracking, privacy switch, adaptive color temperature, but no 3.5mm audio output. Basically, it is mainly with improved camera for video call.

Seems like this worked a few days ago. Not sure when it changed, but now you do the trade-in and once they have appraised your device you'll get the credit (gift card) and the 25% for an Echo device. That makes it pretty useless, because by that time the lightning deals will be over.

Must be specific accounts bc I just did this 5 minutes ago and got the instant 25% discount and $5 credit for the trade in instantly

Did the on-screen instructions say it would be instant or "after we have appraised the device"?

Thanks. My 25% was instant too. I did the trade in for the 25% for the echo show 8 1st gen already.

I just wanted to confirm if they'll charge me back for the 25% discount because I really don't want to send my trade in echo dot 3rd gen. I'd rather just keep it and have them deduct the $5 GC. If that's actually all they do..

I got instant credit on first order with echo 5 but not on second order. Wish I could trade that echo show 5 in already.

Sounds to me like they can charge you the amount of the promotional credit...

If you selected Instant Payment and received a promotional credit toward the purchase of a new Amazon device and (i) you cancel the trade-in, (ii) your trade-in is not received by the date specified in the trade-in confirmation email you receive and as shown on Your Trade-In Account, or (iii) your trade-in is a Rejected Item, then you authorize us to charge your payment method for the amount of the promotional credit used.

People who have done this are the ones who's account have been flagged and are being forced to send in their trade vs. Instant. Just something to keep in mind before deciding to hold on to the trade.

I have one account that is instant but my wife's account we forget to send back a fire tablet like two years ago and that account requires the device to be sent in first now

No, they only took back the gift card credit. But that account doesn't get instant discounts anymore where my other account still does.
