Amazing price for a great router. I think I have restarted once in the last 2 years. Rock solid.
It's a 3x3 design. It's solid for the price (due to triband) but not as amazing as people like to think.

CPU is likely the 4906 variant at this point, which is the same A53 but dual core. The quad core 4908 was phased out a long ago to cut cost.

Your router is better. IPQ8065 4x4 + 4x4 QCA9984 platform with full 1W output.

Main Cpu a tad weaker. Dual core A7 vs Dual core a53, but shouldn't matter much for real world use.

Wifi 6 is just better SNR (8-9db improvement with wifi 6 client) + 10% QAM improvement at range.

Stuff like OFDMA or MU-MIMO doesn't work when you run old clients that take over an entire radio. Meaning.. unless you're only running newer clients, theres not much benefit (currently)
Netgear AX3000 wifi 6 router is only 50 bucks at Walmart.

having just bought both, this tp-link one is so much better. much faster. netgear super annoying forcing you sign up so many things and trying to make you only use your phone with admin controls

Funny, I bought this garbage and I'm returning it. Both wired speeds, which is odd, and wireless speeds and range were worse than my old Asus U66. I ordered an Archer ax21 so hopefully that will give me what I need. I installed an ax21 at my brother's huge home and I was blown away by the speed and range.
You definitely got a lemon, I'm seeing WiFi speeds in the 4-500Mb range with this router in access point mode from 20 feet through 3 walls and 600+ from 6 feet away with no obstructions on my pixel 5A (on the 2nd 5G band with smart connect off)

I bought this router and had an AX21 prior. For me the c4000 was an upgrade. Had poor signal in one corner of my house which is much better now. No more dropped frames on FaceTime calls now. Wireless speed was the same or better for me also.

Interesting, cause my AX21 just arrived and I'm getting incredible speeds, as I expected. Wonder if I did indeed get a lemon.

Got this the last time it was on sd for like $90 or so? It lasted 2 years and just died out of the blue. Worked well when it did, but the lack of FW update and that it won't last from the reviews I'm reading, will have me looking for an alternative. I hate that TPLink makes you log in through the cloud. Poor security. And like how mine is no longer connecting to the internet, that makes logging in to troubleshoot an impossibility.

Can someone with router knowledge opine on ac1750 (archer a7) vs. this ac4000? Both are $59 so trying to decide which is better

And maybe you didn't! My AC4000 router forgot it's DHCP reservations & computer MAC cloning on power up this morning, glad I had backed up settings. I routinely power down every night, restart in the morning.
Maybe changing my mind about this if it's reliability is questionable (See post #119 above for my prior comment praising it). My TP-Link AC1750 has been rock solid for over 4 years.

TLDR, backup your settings.

Why not just get an access point?
Quote from caveman017 :
There's no reason to do that. Any halfway decent router should be able to handle up to 254 devices, then you'd need to set up a separate subnet, but I'm guessing no home network is going to have anywhere near that limit.

A wireless access point would just extend the wifi network portion of your network, assuming you have a wired backhaul.
steps or tutorial you can recommend for that? I have to restart my router twice a day, which I feel is the result of ip conflict or something throwing connected devices off the network randomly..

Easiest way to see if it is a device is to change your WiFi SSID to something completely new and only connect the most important things (like a Roku and computer). Leave anything that you don't NEED (like your phone, Alexa, smart switches, etc) without internet for a day or two.

See if that fixes it.

The goal there is to eliminate client devices that may be causing the issue. If that doesn't work, then I'd start looking at resetting the router and going from there.
