Heads up this is the 1.0, not the 2.0 that was previously on sale for $520ish at costco. Doesn't look like there is much of a difference stats wise, other than smart features.

Do note that Amazon is not offering or even allowing to purchase third party extended warranty (like all state), and ice machines are notorious for going bad after the 1 year mark. With an expensive purchase like this, with things that are known to go bad, I'll probably buy the 2.0 from Costco with more warranty

We absolutely love our Opal!! We've had ours since February 2022; it makes ice quickly, is the perfect size/crunch and is absolutely the best. period.

Tips from experience with it:

The side tank is a MUST. Otherwise you'll be annoyed with having to pull the ice bucket out to constantly fill the internal reservoir with water.
When on, it does make a slight humming sound when running; nothing too crazy but may require the volume of the tv to be turned up 1 or 2 levels if you have an open kitchen/living room area (say from volume level 10 to level 12).
The cleaning is DEFINITELY required. Do not skip. There are 2 types of cleaning: 1 - maintenance flush is what I call it. It's a teaspoon of bleach in the internal reservoir with 4-5 cups of fresh water to kill any bacteria. Run this once, drain and then run a fresh water cycle 3-4 times (draining each time). 2 - We live in North FL with hard water so we use nothing but filtered water. However, with that said, We've had ours for 4 months and I've had to run a full internal reservoir of straight vinegar to get the calcium deposits loosened up and flushed out. What I find works best is to set it up in the late evening, run 3 cycles of the vinegar through the Opal (no discharging the vinegar between cycles), let it sit overnight and then in the morning, run it 2 more times, drain the vinegar with all the sediment deposits, wipe out the inside, flush with fresh filtered water for 4 to 5 cycles (draining each time) to make sure you don't have any residual vinegar and wipe the inside thoroughly with a wet, fresh water paper towel or new sponge. Run one more cycle with fresh water and then set it back up to make ice. NOTE: For both types of cleanings, be sure to fill the reservoir with 4 or 5 cups of the water that you'll use to make the ice, flip the switch back to making ice and in a few minutes, fresh crunchy ice will be waiting for you.

I clicked on this thread out of curiosity assuming I'd be reading comments from weekend side-gig bartenders and event organizers. Turns out it's just regular people who apparently are passionate enough about ICE that they're willing to have a $500 groaning behemoth on their countertop 24/7 just so they don't have to deal with the travesty of fridge ice.

50/50 chance I pull the trigger and become one of those people

Well done. Needed one. Figured I'd have to wait for BF for this.

My wife got me this for Father's day in 2020...one of my favorite things I own. Works great, though my first one had a hole in the tubing, they shipped a new one out asap and sent someone to get the other one.

I wanna pull the trigger on this, because I don't really care about connectivity (though scheduling might be nice), but some of the reviews say that the 2.0 is quieter and smaller than the original which leads me to believe there are some internal design improvements. Does anyone have any first hand experiences. On sale now, the 2.0 version is about $150 more expensive... Paying that much for ice, is is worth it to just go all in?

I don't know about size but the reviews said the 2.0 was slightly more durable. I got the 5 year warranty with mine. It sounds about like the dishwasher running so it's pretty quiet and plinks out a nugget every 4 to 5 seconds. Doesn't come with filter so I bought the one that was recommended.

The only downer is the 2.0 with side water doesn't have a water line hook up. Not sure about other models.

Hmm I might get this one. How does the quality of this compare to other nugget ice makers?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it... I kind of broke right now, but I've been eyeing these up for my basement for a while now. Anywho, thank you.

Just a quick review - I've had mine for 2 years and love it. It's super fun for cocktails and even just sodas. The connectivity issues work well, if, for example, you wanted to stop it from running during a time you'd be in the room.

It is a little noisy, but not bad. I will fill a glass when I sit down to watch TV, and it'll run for a bit to replace the cup I just took. It doesn't bug me, but might bother you..

My Fridge does this for free lol.
I've never come across a fridge that made decent ice, but I'm on the lookout for one as I don't think I have room for a big ice maker like this, and I'm going to need to get a new fridge soon.. The crunchy/chewable soda type of ice is my favorite, apparently Sonic sells bags of that ice, but I don't have one near me. Ice from refrigerator ice makers is always okay at best in my experience.

Great price! Especially one with the side tank. I Bought my a few weeks back for a similar price. So far I love it. been reports of these breaking down frequently so a 3 party warranty is something you should look in to. Also I've had some issues with the side tank, despite being full, the add water light turns on and will not make ice. Usually moving the tubes around and taking the tank in and out fixes it. They want you to clean/descale weekly which could be a pain. The app with the scheduling is actually a nice feature. The machine also runs a little loud for those who could be bothered by that

Edit: I got the 2.0. Don't know the differences between the two
