BestBuy has the MacBook Pro 16 inch 512gb for $2249.

This may be the lowest price I've seen.

I wouldn't consider 16" instead get an M1 14" beefed up version

For those that want the larger screen, and better sound, the 16" is great IMO.

I paid the same back in April from Costco for the same system. Love it.

Well, maybe YOU wouldn't and that's great. But some people need the larger screen real estate. It's just silly to suggest getting the 14" over the 16" without knowing a user's needs. There is a reason Apple offers multiple screen sizes rather than a "one size fits most" model. If you are spending this much on a laptop then it's probably for work so get the configuration that will make you the most productive. Scrimping just to pare down the drive out price usually costs more in the long run.

The spec'd out 14in gets worse battery life too so it really depends on your preferences and toleration of a bigger and heavier laptop.

Id only get the 14 if say they were a business traveler and their company is too cheap to send them business and stuck in economy plus or something.

Ive done the powerful but small laptop before and its not worth it imo

It's $2199 if you have total tech membership. I picked one up today for my wife.
I got the membership for them to mount a tv that I couldn't do myself (drilling into tiles on my wall). well worth the price for that and insurance on all purchased electronics .

The $2499 14" has literally identical specs to the $2699 16", but the 16 has better battery life, better speakers, handles heat better and of course more screen real estate. And the differences are not negligible, 14" gets 17 hours of video playback vs 21 hours on the 16", the speakers are significantly better, and heat dissipation is much better on the 16, fans took twice as long to come on running the same tests and ran at 1/2 the RPM of the 14".

Upgrade costs are the same on both computers, if you add the same stuff to both the 16" will always be $200 more than the 14". I guess you could upgrade the 14" to 32GB of unified memory for +$400, but at that point you're paying $200 more than the 16" for 2x the RAM but losing all the things I already mentioned. And from what I've read the real world performance increase in doubling the RAM is negligible.

I thought the pricing was strange when I saw it, it seemed to me like the only reason to buy the 14" over the 16" is if portability is very important to you, since it's slightly smaller and weighs 1.2lbs less. I'm about to buy one and for me it feels crazy to not spend $200 extra for the 16".
