The people who used Paypal are screwed. You need to open a dispute and Paypal will wait for seller and buyer to settle amicably. They will only intervene after a certain period.

WIth a direct CC - it would have been a quick refund.
I will definitely complain with Paypal first, dealt with them before, quick and easy.
If you charge back through the credit card, you are actually charging back Paypal not Tracfone, then you Paypal account will be at a risk

Well - I did it for 2 reasons.
First, not to expose my credit card to a shady company like TFW.
Second, paypal had 5% CB with Discover and 3% with Paypal MC.
Makes sense. I used a temp generated virtual card number for that same reason. 5% CB is certainly appealing but a $5 reward isn't worth using PayPal. Whatever floats one's boat. ✌️

Very true. Should have used virtual CC. These days no one seems to offer that except Cap one and I dislike that company.

There should be some way to protect customers from these malpractices. We need some geniune legal advise here.

Citibank has virtual account numbers. Their smartphone banking apps makes them easy to generate and use.

Not really. Because their TnC states that loopholes. You can open a dispute on TW so TW would have a heavy merchant fees. Visa or MC fees are higher if a merchant has higher dispute rate. So if you want to damage their profitablity, all you could do is open a dispute and submit all the documents.

Even if the claim is resolved in your favor, TW will enjoy higher merchant fees when contract is up for renewal.

I've called TFW twice and they just say that the card was not charged. They don't even talk about a refund. Same thing in their cancellation email. It sounds like they are NOT even initiating a refund.

I'm guessing almost everyone will have to file a dispute or do a chargeback. They are not refunding on their own.
Their CS reps are clueless, borderline retarded half the time. Loads of them still aren't even familiar with the new unlock policy that changed late last year.

They will probably issue refunds in a batch as part of the cancellation process, but CS has absolutely no idea how that all works, despite whatever they may try to ramble on about.

Those of you that got cancellation emails, does it show canceled if you lookup the order?

The INEPTness of the CSRs will cost the company. Lot of folks (or almost all) will do CC chargebacks and Paypal disputes. That will hurt the companies profitability.

If TFW had worded this as a price mistake and immediately said they would refund, people wouldn't dispute.

Also in my experience on SD - there are a LOT of price mistakes, but no company ACTUALLY posts an actual charge WITHOUT shipping first. There are authorizations which get removed, but no charge typically. Is it even legal for an online retailer to charge without shipping? The sale is complete only when the order ships.

There was an incident with Tracfone during the beginning of July 2020 where they priced a phone at $1. The phones were shipped out but they later requested it to be returned to sender.

I was just checking my credit card statements. It seems like they took 1 month (beginning of August 2020) to process the refund for that case. Don't expect to see your refund anytime soon if you don't request a chargeback.

Theirs system sucks. Even if the order is cancelled, it STILL shows in Process.
Everyone whether they got the cancellation mail or not, has their orders cancelled.
They are just SLOW at emails, online status updates etc etc.
It's clear that they have NO intention of shipping phones at $99.
