In my experience these sorts of diffusers inevitably develop mildew. Unless you're constantly monitoring and cleaning them they're not a smart or healthy option.

Aren't you supposed to clean it every few days per instructions?

Interesting, I hadn't heard of that distinction before - thanks very much for the nugget. If you happen to have one handy, would you mind sharing or DMing a link or additional info you found useful regarding insight into non-ultrasonic humidifiers? No worries either way tho - just learning of the distinction is already much appreciated

Saw someone talking about ultrasonic humidifiers putting whatever is in your water into the air you breathe. Thought it was homeopathic bs, but there are cited studies about it. Just bought a non-ultrasonic Honeywell instead.

I just returned one of these. Two issues: too large for me and too hard to take apart.

I've had a small one that has to be filled each day and, after getting the new, larger one, realized that I like the small one where I don't have to worry about mold/mildew.

What in the world is this thing?
It vaporizes water. Kinda like a steam machine.

It adds humidity to the air, although I mainly mainly use it to make my room smell nice by adding some essential oils to it.

Pretty cool. "Health benefits" are dubious

Also I got a different version of this and noticed that all the cheap ones leak water if you leave it on too long.

Exactly, I have never heard of a zero care unit before. your suppose to wash it or at least wipe it clean. This varies depending on how much its used. If daily I would say at least once a week. It also depends on your water type eg:hard water.

huh? at least your username checks out.

This does not happen I have several diffusers for 8+ years.I have them bedrooms, living spaces, dining room.

This is not a machine that vaporizes oil that sticks to walls. However like anything that disperses a scent (glade plugins, incense etc) there is probability of scents getting into fabrics (curtains, clothes etc).
