It all comes to the bait. Every fishes takes different baits. I'm a self proclaimed Master Baiter.
This is perfect for kayak or pontoon boats, I've even used it on my stand up paddle board. I personally use the pocket size power packs for jump starting, works great. Very lightweight and portable. They also power it for a decent amount of time.
Great to see this getting posted.
Thanks

I'm interested in how you set up your fish finder with this type of battery. Do you have a tutorial or website that you can point me to? I'll be using this in saltwater if that makes a difference.

Saltwater should not matter. Per the documentation this unit can be used with any battery of up to 20 volts. If you have spare batteries from your power tool search for simple adapter such as this one specific for your battery brand https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-terminals,Work-Battery;Power-Connector-Robotics/dp/B09GW6TC43/ref... [amazon.com] on Amazon. Ensure that you don't get the one that converts power down to 12 volts as it will over discharge your battery if you forget to disconnect it from the adapter due to built-in step down electronics. Just connect the wires to the unit's wires like you would with any other battery. I attached removable clips so I can unclip the adapter when not in use. Also don't forget to set the warning threshold for your battery discharge - example if you use a 18 volt Black&Decker battery, I would suggest you set an audible alarm (in Striker settings) to warn you when the battery voltage drops below 15 volts to ensure that you don't end up over discharging the battery.

As for mounting, check youtube and you will find many different ideas. I have hardwired mine with all wires concealed. The transducer is installed in one of the scupper holes using a long screw and wing nut from Homedepot. The battery rests inside the midsection footwell when fishing. A 4AH battery should last about 8+ hours and 2AH about 3.5 hours.

Finally, I installed a matt anti glare screen protecter cut to size that helps reducing sun glare to a large degree when out on the water.

You have to buy jump starter, adapted and some watertight case. Then you have to find someone with basic electrical skills. I mounted my fishfinder right on top of the box.

What about this?

The Garmin is rated at 1.5A so with 6000 mAh it should last about 4 hours.

If you have a battery pack for a wireless drill that operates at either 12v or 18v you can buy a Power Wheel adapter for your brand and use those battery packs. I got one for my Makita 18v battery pack for $15 on Amazon.

I like the vivid 4cv bc it just a tad more and it has the same transducer as ~$500 model and it has clear vu and the map making function
