sometimes i just miss the simplicity of a out of the box one though. a modded one will never be kid friendly since you can open menus and mess up settings by randomly banging on buttons as kids do, and theres no simple way to properly shut a Raspberry Pi down without going into a menu (actually a dude had rigged a foolproof shutdown relay online, but it got really complicated).
i'd go sf2 all the way though. although with 5 different versions of sf2 it's really a 7 in 1 in my book, theres good variety in those 7.
the new ones btw are supposedly inferiors, the cabinet can block some of the view for tall people and the raised siding can get in the way of your hands and rub off. otoh i assume the joysticks are out of the box competent now at least. i'd still switch for sanwa sticks personally. which were about 20-25 each when i was buying so not too expensive an upgrade,
funny how a few years later 299 is like when these used to clearance for 150 (i picked up my original sf2 cab to mod for 150). our money being worth half as much as a few years ago might not be too far off!
