genuinely curious, why do people pay more for the old crappier looking one when they could just buy the newer one for less?

i get the older one is now longer made but doesn't quite make sense to me

Lego officially said most sets to increase in price due to increased cost of materials.

Maybe I should buy this and put it in the closet next to the Aoshima model kit I never built.

I bought 2 of those sets when they came out, and stored them away ever since, unopened. Good thing I did
I got 2 of those. I think the flux capacitor had a misspelling too. Not sure if it makes it more valuable. They had "shield" spelled as "sheild". Smilie

I feel ya, man. It's kind-of hopeless at this point. (for anyone that doesn't know, there are European version products shipped internationally; some people have good experiences, others not...)

For anyone looking for this set, which has been out-of-stock most of the time since launch last month, if you wait you should be able to pick one up from a U.S. Seller, usually with free shipping and sometimes card rebates (such as Target RedCard or Amazon Store Card 5%), even if price is MSRP.

I got one from Wal-mart a few weeks ago. Came quickly and well-packed. Last week this was posted as available on Amazon, but apparently sold-out quickly. But if you keep checking I'm sure these will pop up again. Once the scalpers realize they can't re-sell them for $300 anymore....
