I've been out of high school for over 20 years and they're still using this same calculator and it's at the same price. Hopefully the bootleg calculator games have improved since then to help pass the time in Calculus class. I learned more real world skills playing Drug Wars on my beloved square body TI calculator.

I teach AP Calculus. If you can snag a college discount, it's worth it to get this calculator. You can't use a phone on an AP test, and though any graphing calculator will work, the multi color format and the faster processor make it worth the money. They're also pretty much indestructible.

Finally, you can sell it for around $80 when you're done with it.

With inflation, the calculator is less expensive than it used to be. $100 in 1997 is about $187 now. /Not saying the near monopoly is good.

This (or another similar calculator) will be mandatory for high school exams, and some university.

I have the CE. It's worth it as an upgrade to the normal screen. It's much easier to see two graphs when they're different colors.

Only thing is that this doesn't take AA batteries, so you must remember to keep it charged. If it dies during an exam you're boned.
It's really hard for these to die. They last forever even when it's low battery. Tbh if your battery is on critically low for that long and you don't charge it before an exam that's kinda on you.

Does anyone know how their college student verification process works? My high schooler needs a calculator for AP classes.

Per the Target website and FAQ, they want your school name but don't say much about how they verify if you're an active student or not. Has anyone been verified or failed verificat

I know that 20% off coupon for college student can be used on something else and not only on graphic calculator, but I feel like high school students need graphic calculator in their math classes more than college students. I had a graphic calculator when I was a college student but never used in my math class (I was not a math major and did not take advanced math). My son is upcoming sophmore at college and is also math major, and he can't use graphic calculator in his math classes. My older 2 sons had to use graphic calculators in their AP math classes at high school. Upside is you can easily sell graphic calculator at good price. (I bought ours on Ebay.)
I was two courses away from a bachelors in math… took 10+ math classes in university and more often than not graphing was forbidden. That said, it's absolutely essential for the classes that it was allowed in, like Calculus.

why anyone would buy one of these new is beyond me. eBay, offerup, etc. is the way to go on these things.
Exactly, i bought a bundle of 3 for $50 in offerup in my area, and resell the other 2 to some college students just to recoup the cost.

Faster processor? I can't imagine problems have changed that much since 2009

Worth having or are these kids just going to use their phone apps?
Depends...
Highschool? They will probably use it.

College? My professors explicitly forbade their use during any exams. I could use it for homework, but then I would not be familiar with the scientific calculator I used for my exams. So, I ended up just using the scientific calculator all the time.

Using my sons info, was verified instantly, not sure how they verified since it only required his name, DOB, school name and the year he was

Amazing that this post has been up for 15 hours and not one mention of Snake.

I commend your intelligent thread.

I'm curious what other people had loaded up on their calculator.

Buy it used. This calculator is just another college scam. I recently graduated as a mechanical engineer. I used a ti84 plus for all levels of calc and engineering courses . It's all you need and can be found $40-50$ used (or cheaper)

The best calculator I've tried is the TI-nspire CX CAS, you can chose what to lock for an exam, you get a touch pad and a very complete calculator.

If I have a 20% that expires in September, anyone know if it stacks with their birthday 5% reward?
It should, used it on a vacuum and they stacked.
