It's not an "overclocked 1080p chip". It's pixel shifting to get to 4k. Almost every 4k projector under $5k about uses pixel shifting to display a 4k image. It doesnt really mean anything negative, it's just the only cost effective way for them to get sub $5k 4k projectors out there. The sharpness difference between pixel shifted 4k and "true" 4k is basically not noticeable from normal seating distances.

This cant be compared to 1080p projectors, it's a 4k projector. The sharpness difference between this and any 1080p native projector is massive. 3 "main" resolution classes of home theater projectors in en-masse right now:
Native 1080p
Pixel Shifted 4k
True 4k

The sharpness difference between pixel shifted 4k and true 4k projectors is almost not noticeable at normal seating distances. There are other major difference, but it's not resolution/sharpness related really. Epson has a few projectors that are 'half' 4k, or double 1080p, but most common home theater projectors fall into 1 of 3 categories above resolution wise these days.

The reason to not get this shouldnt be related to the resolution at all. Again basically every 4k projector under $5k is pixel shifted to get a 4k image. The reasons to not get something like this is things like it's from Wemax, so good luck with a cheap Chinese brand projector if you have any issues, etc...There's a reason these things get so incredibly cheap over time, I wouldnt want to spend the money on these, even if saving a lot of money. I bet a lot of these get throw out after a year or two.

Personally I like to stick with the bigger brands - Benq, Epson, Optoma, etc..places you know you get support from. I have a 5 year old Benq HT2050 I've been using and it's been fantastic and Benq support has been amazing through it all between firmware updates, any potential issues/questions, etc. I'm still on the original lamp as well with no noticeable dimming so far - 2,600 hours.

It's a crapshoot when dealing with Wemax. There's a reason why this deal comes back almost every other week. It's being pushed by SD staff. Look up the member reviews on dealing with customer reps. I personally would shop for a used name brand at Amz Warehouse. Better to buy used than a cheap Chinese brand like this. Good luck!

I have been on the fence for this projector for a while, but one of the things holding me off is that it's not a true 4K projector. It is using an overclocked 1080p chip to make it 4k. Also, I read that color accuracy was not the best with this unit either.

Another general thought, these Wemax deals pop up every few days now, one thing to note, is if someone is pushing something, then it's either worth less than they are asking, or it's old stock before new stock, just food for thought.

Would consider this for the 120" screen which is actually cheaper on their website but this code is unique to the linked product

Have you ever compared the two? I have, could see no difference. Except the price, true 4k is 5-10,000, but if you'd rather pay more, go for it.

I wouldn't recommend gaming on something like this. The latency ruins the experience.

Any chance this would work to fill a 250 inch screen? I have a cheap Epson I use outdoors that works fine but want to upgrade. Not looking for perfection, just a decent large picture.

Thank you, that is the correct terminology. Projector Central has a good write up on it:

https://www.projectorcentral.com/...efined.htm [projectorcentral.com]

It is enough to keep me away from buying this projector though considering it's basically a 1080p projector punching above it's weight class to achieve 4k. I think if you don't already have a good 1080p projector, then this would be a decent deal.
