I purchased the S5 from Amazon in one of the previous deal postings in May for $1500. My main camera is a Canon R5, but I needed a second camera and was in the market for something that could capture 6k. I bought the S5 as I was impressed with the specs for the price point and thought it was worth trying out, especially since I could push 5.9K raw video out over hdmi to my Atomos Ninja V+. I had the camera for a couple of weeks and used it for high action photo jobs with dancers as well as for some video work. The camera is really well built and feels solid and there were some cool features like the 6k photo mode, but that system needed some work. The entire camera was unusable while it finished the capture so I didn't use it on any jobs. The 6k photo mode would grab 30 fps of 6k / 18mp pictures that you could pull individual jpgs from. Specs and build aside though, I really just could not get past how subpar the auto focus system was for what I needed to capture, both in photos or video. I tested and played with it a ton as I really wanted it to work but it just wasn't in the cards so I returned it.

The fact that A7C doesn't have 4K60 or 10-bit internal is enough to disregard it. Especially at this price point
If that person needs 4k60 or 10bit internal, then it's not for them, if not, then it doesn't matter much for their use. The video specs are good for what most primarily stills people would do, but not for more dedicated video people wanting to do much color grading, and not for you, so use case matters.

My biggest gripe with it wouldn't be those factors (4k60 and 10bit internal), it would be no front dial, relatively poor evf, and not as much, but one card slot is a bit meh. Also, why not stick a pop-up tiltable flash for emergencies in there.

I modded my S5 and the Autofocus is now faster and more accurate than Sony or Canon.
Well...I don't know how realistic that is, because then why wouldn't Panasonic just do this?

More accurate than the companies of Sony or Canon?

If you cannot be bothered to name a specific camera model, I cannot be bothered to believe you.

They're probably talking about the S1 which has a top mounted display similar to the G9. The S5 was literally designed to be a lighter, easier to carry, and cheaper than the S1 while giving some minor features up.

The question was how it compares to the A7C. The A7C is basically an A7 crammed into an A6xxx body. It's much more compact than the S5 or any other full-frame camera except for the Sigma Fc.

You don't pick up a A7C or S5 if you're not shooting video

There's much better photo cameras for even cheaper or around the same price

If one considers APS-C, M4/3, or used I can see a lot of competition for them at their price points. Not so much new and full frame though depending on what features are important to somebody.

So what you're saying is, the S5 is not great for video, but the only people who buy it are people who want to use it for video.

Whatever...

The S5 is incredible for video but to say "not everybody shoots video" and you're spending $2k on a video centric camera…

Full frame doesn't produce better photos than say a M/43/APSC/DSLR

The trade offs aren't worth the $$$ if you're shooting strictly photos
