Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

Confusion on getting this deal by trading in iPhone XS 256GB..

Should I trade that or wait for Sep for better trade in value for next iPhone ?
I mean that sounds like more of a personal decision on if you want an iPhone or an Android. Maybe figure out that first? Like I would never even look at iPhones as I have no interest.

If you like iPhones get an iPhone. This is not an iPhone.

It seems like this is the best deal for a sub $500 phone. Anyone think of something better?
The regular 6 has been on sale for $500 several times. I would buy it over the 6a all day long.

FYI - I was quoted $295 trade-in credit for my pixel 3a with cracked screen at Google 🙂 and got the free pixel buds. feels like a heck of a deal to me!

edit- I purchased unlocked without a Google Fi plan
WTF I was looking at the pixel 6 a few days ago and they offered me $50 for a 3a with cracked screen....

did they fix the fingerprint sensor on this?
This review doesn't seem to think so.

May I ask why you didn't take the trade-in offer? I traded a Samsung 9 2 years ago and they said it was received with a cracked screen, offer me $175 credit instead of the agreed $300 visa. And then the credit went away so I lost my perfect phone. I don't know if I want to try my luck again.

What's an acceptable ebay 3A price to pay that would get the $300?
get a cracked 3a for < $50 that will get $295 in trade. I am wondering if we'll get screwed by the trade in company though. I might try to not open the new phone until my trade in refund is complete, then I will just return it if they try any shenanigans.

Worth upgrading from a 5a?
I'm definitely thinking about it if I can get a good trade-in value for an old Pixel or something.... looking into it now.... but with no good trade-in then I would say no.

People really give their finger prints away that easily to cell companies?
Nopes, i buy a fake finger to use on daily basis just to unlock a phone. I dont even use their gmail at all, i go deliver the msgs myself and usually write everything encrypted.

6.1" screen? Is this made for ants?

That is a turnoff. I am currently using a 6.7" screen phone and a 6.4" screen phone.
So 6.1 is for Ants and you are using 6.4 so that makes you what? a roach?

Jumped on this right away. My 3a is sitting in a drawer since I have the Pixel 6, but for $150, it's an easy upgrade. My parents have been dealing with slow 3's for awhile so I'll get them to upgrade too. Unlocked should have all 5G bands (better than the regular 6) and they're on Verizon.

I've had the Pixel 6 since Nov, it's been working great for me. I upgraded from a S8.
No issues with the fingerprint sensor and I have had a glass screen protector on since day 1. The battery lasts me about 2.5 days per charge.

I would have waited for the 6a if it weren't for my aging phone that couldn't keep a charge and the fact that 6a doesn't have wireless charging.
