It is my first post. The tent has mixed reviews on REI (3/5). It has more favorable reviews on Amazon (4/5) (Amazon.com: Rightline Gear SUV Tent, Sleeps Up to (6), Universal Fit : Automotive). Most of the complaints are related to the difficulties in setting it up. You should be fine if you are familiar with the Coleman Sundome tent (Amazon.com: Coleman Sundome Dome Tent). I bought one of these from Costco this summer and used it a couple of times, and I like it so far.

I've never understood the point of tents like this. Why do you want the thing attached to your car again?

Personal preference and convenience. It provides an option to sleep in the back of the SUV while being inside your tent with your family. Some people do not prefer sleeping on the ground, especially when it is raining. This also provides an option for the elderly people who like camping, but cannot speep on the floor due to medical conditions.

But it doesn't seem convenient at all, it seems more complicated to set up and ensure there aren't gaps, and nothing is preventing someone from sleeping in their car anyway if they want to. And by the looks of it, the car exhaust is INSIDE the tent!

They have one for top of the car, they made one for side of the car, soon we'll see one for under the car too…

Great for those who have EV's and can keep their AC or heat on overnight. That's the one use case I can see.

I like the ones that open on the truck bed or the ones on the roof of the SUV. I really cannot see the point with this one.

I could see this thing leaking like a sieve in rain where the tent meets car. It's like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Most campsite vehicle pads don't have good spots to place a tent.

I've been watching for something like this that's more like a 4-sided screen room. We could use it for the drive-ins as well as camping.

Having the tent extend from the back of my SUV gives me direct access to food, clothing etc that has to be packed away from animals. Also, in case of rain we could sleep in the SUV.
